Vocational Skills Training (VST) – Clerical Assistant (UNDER REVIEW):

This program prepares students for entry level clerical support positions (not administrative /secretarial positions) in offices, mailrooms, or warehouse settings.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old to begin the application process
  • Provide evidence of 100 hours experience working or volunteering in an office setting
  • Meet the entrance requirements (e.g., C or better in English 12 for the co-requisite School of Business courses
  • Provide evidence of basic computer skills
  • Complete a “Clerical Assistant” questionnaire to the satisfaction of the intake panel
  • Provide documentation of their disability
  • Attend intake interviews

Training includes:

  • Orientation to Kwantlen Polytechnic University
  • Participation in regular University courses with tutorial support
  • Class activities and assignments related to practical application of new skills
  • Employability Skills Classes
  • Participation in work experiences

Vocational Skills Training (VST) – Child Care Aide (UNDER REVIEW):

This program prepares students for entry level positions in a variety of child care settings.

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 19 years old by the first work experience
  • Provide evidence of 100 hours experience working or volunteering with children in a childcare setting
  • Meet the entrance requirements (e.g., B or better in English 10) for the co-requisite Family Childcare courses
  • Provide evidence of basic computer skills
  • Complete a “Child Care Aide” questionnaire to the satisfaction of the intake panel
  • Provide documentation of their disability
  • Be observed by APPD staff while performing duties in a child care setting
  • Provide a doctor’s note indicating the applicant is mentally and physically able to work with children
  • Provide two reference letters indicating the applicant’s suitability for child care
  • Attend intake interviews
  • Attend the Family Child Care Program Information Session
  • Provide a criminal record check upon acceptance to the program

 Training includes:

  • Orientation to Kwantlen Polytechnic University
  • Participation in the Family Child Care Program with tutorial support
  • Class activities and assignments related to practical application of new skills
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR, FoodSafe and WHMIS certification
  • Employability Skills Classes
  • Participation in work experiences
