Automotive Assistant Option

In partnership with Kwantlen’s Automotive Service Technician Program, the automotive assistant option prepares students for entry-level positions in the automotive field.



Application requirements:

  • Attend an intake interview
  • Provide evidence of 100 hours experience working or volunteering in an automotive setting
  • Minimum reading and math level of grade 6
  • Complete an “Automotive Assistant” questionnaire to the satisfaction of the intake panel
  • Provide documentation of their disability
  • Have valid Driver’s License (minimum class 7)

Training includes:

  • Orientation to Kwantlen Polytechnic University
  • Participation in Kwantlen’s Automotive program with tutorial support
  • Class activities and assignments related to practical application of new skills
  • Employability Skills Classes
  • Participation in work experiences

Academic Content:

  • Basic First Aid/CPR
  • WorldHost
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS)
  • Automotive Technician Courses (under review)

Practical Component:

Students participate in Automotive Service Technician program with tutorial support. The program includes hands on shop experience under the supervision of the Automotive Service Technician teaching staff. Work experiences are a minimum of 5 weeks long and 24 to 35 hours per week. Work experiences in the community provide students with an opportunity to practice new skills under the supervision of the employer with support and monitoring by APPD staff.
