Canadian Citizens and Permenant Residents

The KPU English Language Studies (ELS) Department offers academic English classes for students whose first language is not English.

As of September 1, 2017, all ELSQ and ELST courses are tuition free for eligible students (Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees and Diplomats). Mandatory student fees and textbook costs will still be charged. The Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG) will continue to cover the cost of fees for AUG-eligible students. Funding now available for students in upgrading programs at KPU

The Government of BC has made funding available for students who need English language and high school upgrading to improve their chances of employment or to access university studies through the BC Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG).  The funding is based on the student's income level. 


Faculty and staff will explain how you can apply to our programs and how to apply for the upgrading grant at these sessions.


Classes are offered from a Beginner to Advanced Level.

If you are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident…

  • Online course registrations for Fall 2018 Intersession 1 (Sept 4 - Oct 15) is available up until midnight September 5th and Intersession 2 (Oct 29 - Dec 10) is available up until midnight October 30th.
  • Classes will be available at the Surrey and Richmond campuses.
  • Limited seats are available.
  • Students may apply to the BC Adult Upgrading Grant ( AUG ) for funds to help cover expenses.

If you are unable to register for classes on your registration date, please add your name to the waitlist.  If any seats become available, a limited number of seat offers may go out to students before or on the first day of classes.  Please monitor your KPU email regularly for any seat offers.
