KPU Athletic Therapy 2014/15

Looking to gain more practical, hands-on degree-related experience working with athletes?
We are currently accepting applications for student trainers to assist and support our varsity teams.

Student trainers are kinesiology students or recent kinesiology graduates who provide varsity programs with basic injury assessment, first aid, and referrals to the head athletic therapist. They provide support and communicate athlete health concerns and status between the athlete, coaches, and the head athletic therapist. They provide on-the-field/court strapping and taping, and travel with their assigned team and attend all practices and games.

Your Head Athletic Therapist
You will receive one-on-one instruction from our head athletic therapist, Sarah Poole, in sports injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, which will allow you to gain specialized, practical skills for entering the profession or for related graduate studies.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, is a Certified Athletic Therapist through the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She has experience in the CCAA and CIS, as well as with the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Abbotsford Heat, and is the first Head Athletic Therapist in the Eagles history. Sarah manages the Athletic Therapy Clinic, the home base for Eagles athletic therapy, which provides health resources and referrals, assessments, therapies, rehabilitation. She also recruits, trains, and supervises the student trainers.

Got what it takes?
As an ideal candidate, you will have taken/be taking a recognized taping course, as well as have current first aid certification. Please send your resume and cover letter to Sarah Poole, head athletic therapist, at athletictherapy@kpu.ca. The Athletic Therapy Clinic is located at Cedar 1035 on the KPU Surrey Campus.
