Computer Systems Technician

Start date: September - 45 weeks (Full-time)

Description

This Program is designed to train electronics technicians specializing in the installation, servicing and maintenance of computer equipment, networks, and related computer systems.

The 45 - week program consists of a 32-week Basic Electronics section and a 13-week Computer Systems section. Successful completion of each course in the Basic Electronics section is a prerequisite for entry into the Computer Systems section.

The Basic Electronics section will establish a solid foundation for an electronics technician's career by providing a thorough knowledge of electronics theory, good hand skills and a logical approach to electronics troubleshooting. The method of instruction will be equally divided between classroom lecture and hands-on lab work.

The Computer Systems section will apply the skills obtained in the Basic Electronics section to the maintenance of computer systems. The method of instruction will be mainly hands-on training on related computer systems. Customer relations and interpersonal skills will also be stressed.

Career Opportunities

This 11-month program is designed to provide the training necessary to become successful Computer Systems Technicians. Almost every business and organization today uses computer systems, and their use will grow substantially in the future. There is a high demand for technicians who can install, service and maintain these systems.

Student Profile

Prospective students should have an aptitude for logical thinking, an even temperament and good hand skills.

Admission Requirements

General admission requirements plus grade 10 reading comprehension as assessed by Kwantlen and C+ or better in Mathematics 12, or MATH 1112, or equivalent on Kwantlen math assessment. Physics 12 or equivalent would be an asset.
