  • General Admission requirements apply.
  • BC English 12 with a C+ grade or better, or equivalent.
  • Math 11 with a C grade or better, or equivalent.

Description

This is a flexible diploma option, which allows students to select a variety of business courses once they have fulfilled the core requirements of the program. Students can develop their own individualized business diploma, which meets their needs in various specialized areas of study.

The two-year General Business Studies Diploma Program commences each September. It is possible to extend the completion time beyond two years. Some courses are offered on weekday evenings and on Saturdays.

Content

Core Requirements

Students must take at least two Computer Business Systems (CBSY) courses. In addition they must take at least one course from each of the following:

ACCT 1130 is the business math course for career programs; however, any equivalent or higher course may be used to meet this requirement. ACCT 1230 is the business statistics courses for career programs; however, any college statistics course may be used to meet this requirement.

*If ECON 1150 is taken, ECON 1250 must also be taken to satisfy the economics requirement in the program. ECON 1250 will apply as an elective course.

Business Studies Requirements

In addition to core requirements, Business Studies students are required to take (six) additional 2300 or 2400 level courses from, at least two of the following areas:

  • Accounting
  • Business
  • Computer Business Systems
  • Economics ( ECON 1150 and all ECON 1200 level courses are also acceptable as upper level courses)
  • Marketing
Electives

The remaining courses are electives. These electives can be any college courses numbered 1100 or higher that carry academic credit (university transfer courses are recommended). They can be selected by students to meet prerequisite requirements, or to meet specific student needs and interests.

Transfer

Graduates are eligible for entry into the third year of Kwantlen's Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership. This diploma program is also eligible for block transfer to the Open University toward the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (see Bachelor of Business Administration - Open University).

Certificate

Description

The purpose of the General Business Studies Certificate Program is to provide students with a broad range of basic business skills and an understanding of the business environment.

The one-year General Business Studies Certificate Program commences each September on the Langley, Richmond and Surrey campuses. However, students may complete the program on a part-time basis over a maximum five-year period.

The program emphasizes real world and microcomputer business applications. Students who can complete the required courses for this program can receive full credit for their work and continue their study toward a career-oriented diploma program at Kwantlen University College. Most of the courses are transferable to other universities and colleges (check the transfer guide for specific details).

One elective from any of the above disciplines

This example will assist students who wish to complete the General Business Studies Certificate Program in one year. Students may choose different courses that better meet their specific needs and timetables and that fulfill diploma requirements.
