Graduation Requirements

Application for Graduation Credential Completion

See policy C.42 which can be viewed at the Library or on-line.

A minimum Program Grade Point Average (PGPA) of 2.00 is required for graduation. All students must submit a Graduation Credential Application, along with the required fee, in order to receive a credential. Student obligations relating to fees, library books, rental or borrowed equipment or other materials must be met before a credential will be released.

Transfer of Courses to Meet Program Requirements

A student may apply credits for courses taken at other post-secondary institutions towards the requirements for a program at Kwantlen University College. A minimum of 25% of the course work for a credential must be completed at Kwantlen. Up to 75% of the credits required may be obtained through a combination of transfer credit and Prior Learning Assessment. In order to have previous academic work evaluated, students must submit a Request for Transfer Credit form, an official transcript and the Document Evaluation Fee for transcripts that originate outside British Columbia. The Request for Transfer Credit form should be submitted as early as possible in the student's program. Substitutions for prescribed courses in a program may be approved by the appropriate Dean upon submission of the Request for Course Substitution form to the Graduation Secretary. Such requests should be submitted prior to enrolling in the substitute course. All forms pertaining to graduation may be obtained through the Admissions Office on any campus and on line at www.kwantlen.ca/grad/htm

Graduation with Distinction

See policy C.22 which can be viewed at the Library or on-line.

Students who complete their programs with a Program Grade Point Average (PGPA) of 3.75 or higher in a program that utilizes letter grades will be considered to have Graduated With Distinction.

Students who graduate with outstanding achievement, as determined by program faculty, from a program that does not utilize letter grades will be considered to have Graduated with Distinction.

The phrase Graduated With Distinction will appear on the student's transcript and credential.

Time limits and Credits Required

In addition to the requirement for a Program Grade Point Average of 2.00, graduation is also determined according to Kwantlen policies on time limits, total credits, and limits on transfer from other programs (both Kwantlen programs and other post-secondary institutions). There is a 10 year limit on completion of all credentials unless otherwise specified by the individual program. In cases when a program has significantly changed, Kwantlen will attempt to recognize credit for individual courses taken towards a credential within the time limit allotted. The applicability of the particular courses will be assessed by the individual program area.

Extensions to the time limits for a credential may be granted under extraordinary circumstances. Students must submit an appeal form to be reviewed by the Registrar or designate.

External articulation and/or accreditation requirements may mean that some programs require more than the minimum credits listed below to complete graduation requirements. Please refer to the Calendar description for the credit requirements of a particular program.

All applications for graduation will be assessed according to the requirements published in the Kwantlen University College Calendar at the time that the student began their program unless they are otherwise notified by the University College that the program has significantly changed. If requirements have changed, students may request to be evaluated under the new requirements.
