Post Secondary Program Readiness(PSP)

Offered at: Langley, Newton, Richmond & Surrey

(Full-time or Part-time)

Part-time evening programs may be available.

Description

Post Secondary Program Readiness (PSPR) will be of interest to those students who wish to:

  • Prepare for entrance requirements into other University College programs;
  • Upgrade specific skills and knowledge in English (reading, writing, spelling, etc.), math and science;
  • Prepare to write, the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test, and other specific program entry tests.

Admission Requirements

Normal University College admission requirements apply. In addition, for continuous intake courses, all applicants, except those referred by instructors, must take assessments in English and Math to ensure appropriate placement in the program. Assessments are booked through the Admissions Office.

Applicants for semester-based courses should refer to the introduction to PSPR course descriptions in the course section for further information on admission requirements.

Content

Class Format

Fundamental-level courses are given in a continuous-intake, self-paced format. Courses at the Intermediate, Advanced and Provincial Levels are offered in both semester-based and self-paced class format. Course offerings will vary from campus to campus.

Fundamental Level

Students will benefit from the fundamental level if they have difficulty with basic reading, writing, and math. Completion of this level prepares students for some trades programs and PSPR courses at the Intermediate Level.

Intermediate Level

Completion of courses at this level prepares students for courses at the Advanced level and for direct entry into many trades and vocational programs.

Advanced Level

Completion of courses at the Advanced level prepares students for courses at the Provincial Level. Advanced-level courses may also be used as prerequisites for many other courses at Kwantlen. Completion of Advanced English will normally allow a student to succeed in the LPI test.

Provincial Level

Completion of courses at this level prepares students for direct entry into many Kwantlen programs and courses.

Graduation - Provincial Level

The BC Adult Graduation Diploma, the "Adult Dogwood", is awarded through Kwantlen University College by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology and the Ministry of Education. Please refer to the Adult High School Completion (ABE) program section of this calendar for further details.

Reading Lab

The reading skills laboratory offers individualized help to acquire reading, vocabulary, and spelling skills at all levels. It is available to all Kwantlen students and may be taken as preparation for, or at the same time as, other University College courses.

Directed Studies

Directed studies courses in Math and English are available for students with specific upgrading needs. Course content and requirements for completion are determined between the individual student and instructor.

Provincially Articulated Preparatory Courses

Note: A "Provincially articulated" course is one that has been approved by the BC. government through a Provincial Articulation Committee and is recognized at all accredited colleges in BC.
