Commercial Beekeeping Student Application

Program Criteria
This program is taught in English. Students should have sufficient English reading, writing, speaking and comprehension abilities in English to participate in this Program. Note: For the Commercial Beekeeping work term in the summer, placements are available in English, Spanish and Tagalog.
  • Full boxes of honey can weigh up to 40 kg (88 lbs). Students should have a strong back and hands and be physically capable of lifting this much weight if your intention is to work in a bee yard.
  • Students must be able to drive or find transportation to classes as well to and from bee yards
500 words max.
Summer Practicum Options

Option 1: For the summer session of the Program, students may choose to complete a 5 month full time paid work term, 5 to 6 days per week, with a large-scale beekeeper in BC, Alberta or Saskatchewan (travel and rooming expenses may be provided by employer).

Option 2: Or, for the summer session, students can work 40 KPU bee colonies, 1 day per week at the Honeybee Centre in Surrey, under the supervision of a KPU instructor, in order to gain the required experience to complete the program. This is an unpaid practicum experience.
