Entrance Requirements

The Wilson School of Design uses an online submission portal, Slideroom, to collect, evaluate, and store entrance packages. Once you have completed your online application to KPU, you may upload your entrance package onto SlideRoom

Please ensure you have completed your online application and reviewed the requirements for your Entrance Package submission before uploading to Slideroom. Please be aware there is a supplemental fee and data privacy consent required when creating a Slideroom profile.

The Foundations in Design Program is a limited intake program with 20 seats available each Fall intake.  Admission to the program is based on the strength of the applicant's Entrance Package submission. Once you have completed your application to KPU, you may begin uploading your Entrance Package through SlideRoom.

Entrance Package

As part of your Entrance Package submission, you will be asked to submit:

  1. A short video* and
  2. Unofficial secondary and/or post-secondary transcript(s)

*If you are unable to create a video submission please contact find@kpu.ca for an alternative format.

Video Content
The video should explain why you want to study at the Wilson School of Design and show relevant samples of your creative work. The format is up to you to showcase your current skills, and to answer questions provided by the program (see below). The video must:

  1. Feature the applicant, be created and narrated by the applicant
  2. Be a maximum length of 5 minutes
  3. Answer the following questions:
    • Who are you? Introduce yourself.
    • What are your current skills? Use examples of your work to explain. (Painting, drawing, photography, video/animation, sculpture, sewing/costume design, model making, etc.)
    • Why design? What do you hope to learn from the Foundations in Design program?
    • Who is your favourite designer? Why?

Entrance Package Formatting
Your Entrance Package must be uploaded to SlideRoom for submission. Here are acceptable formats for the video and transcript(s):

  1. Video:
    • Media link (YouTube or Vimeo; ensure privacy/sharing permissions are set to enable our viewing), or 
    • Video file (must be less than 250 MB; acceptable file formats: .m4v, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .flv, .asf, .mpeg, .mpg, .mkv),
  2. Transcript: PDF or image file (.png, .jpg, .jpeg)
