We create partnerships to boldly provoke progress by researching, innovating and transforming our world through design.

The Research and Applied Design Centre (RAD) coordinates researchers (faculty and students) and research groups from the Wilson School of Design, and connects them with collaborators and partners from other academic institutions, research institutes, industry, government, society, etc.

Our main purpose is to create a collaboration space to explore and innovate design-related problems utilizing our faculty’s expertise and students’ enthusiasm. RAD is a distinct entity with mutual benefits to researchers, Wilson School of Design, collaborators and partners.

The faculty involved in RAD are recognized for their profound knowledge and professional experience in the fields of:

  • Human factors and Ergonomics
  • Thermoregulation
  • User centred design/research
  • Alternative transportation
  • Material science (textiles)
  • Sustainable design
  • Food design

At the Wilson School of Design we have an incredibly talented and enthusiastic group of students, who come from all 7 programs giving a unique and very rich contribution to our research projects. They are a key element of all our research projects participating either as Research Assistants in dedicated research projects or in research projects embedded within courses.
