Developing Reflective Thinking and Communication: Classroom Strategies for Faculty

Student Thinking
Surrey
KPU Surrey A2410

Description:

Reflection is a key part of creating a learning environment “where thought meets action”.  In many courses, students are asked to produce reflective journals, ePortfolios, and papers where course concepts are integrated with personal experiences. For many students, the type of thinking and self-expression required to produce successful reflective work is new.  How can instructors support the development of these skills?  In this workshop, we will work towards a definition of reflective writing across different disciplines.  We will then apply practical, hands-on strategies to scaffold the process of learning to reflect well.  You will leave the workshop with tools and exercises that you can adapt and apply in the classroom.

Registration is requested, however drop-ins are also welcome pending space.

Facilitators:
Gina Buchanan, Senior Manager, Educational Development, Teaching & Learning Commons
Christina Page, Learning Strategist, The Learning Centre
