Music@Midweek is a free noon hour concert series that takes place on Wednesdays in the KPU Langley Auditorium.

This week features Jeremy Berkman (Trombone) & David Brown (Double Bass).

DAVID BROWN, BASS

 

David has been a member of Vancouver’s professional music community for more than forty years. During this time he has performed with most of the musical organizations in the city (Masterpiece Music, Curio, Music in the Morning, Vancouver Men’s Chorus, Chor Leoni, Vancouver New Music, Vancouver Children's Festival, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Festival Vancouver, Vancouver Jazz Festival, Cantata Singers, UBC Recital Series, Vetta Chamber Music, Music on Main). He also has extensive film and commercial recording experience. David was the recipient of four BC Cultural Arts and two Canada Council Arts Grants, which enabled his studies at the Juilliard School. He has attended numerous music festivals in Canada, the US and Mexico and also taught at a number of summer music camps. He was the Principal Bass of the CBC Radio Orchestra from 2004 until it was disbanded in 2008.  He is currently a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Turning Point Ensemble and the Bellingham Festival Orchestra. David enjoys a wide variety of musical opportunities and has a particular interest in small ensemble settings of a chamber music or improvisational nature.

 

JEREMY BERKMAN, TROMBONE

 

A graduate of Juilliard School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory and College (with degrees in music and economics) trombonist Jeremy Berkman currently plays with and leads the education and community engagement efforts of Vancouver’s award-winning Turning Point Ensemble (TPE).  He holds leading positions with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, A Touch of Brass Quintet, and the Jill Townsend Big Band, and is a frequent substitute player with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.   With TPE, Jeremy has co-led a number of large scale collaborations and in 2011 was honoured with Vancouver’s Mayor’s Arts Award (Music).   He has contributed to over 30 commercial recordings, and is featured in Still Image (music of Owen Underhill) on the Centerdisc label.  With The Peggy Lee Band, led by cellist Peggy Lee, he has recorded five cds, toured nationally and internationally, and as a band member been nominated for a Juno Award  Jeremy is a Sessional Instructor of Trombone at the University of British Columbia, and presents clinics sponsored as a Jupiter Artist.
