Get Ready! Get Hired! is a week-long event hosted by Career and Volunteer Services that brings employment and volunteerism to the forefront. Shape your career portfolio with experiences that build bridges. Meet face to face with employers and community partners looking to meet talented people like you!

Attend the Hiring Fair to network with employers looking to fill active employment posts. The Hiring Fair is targeted at survival jobs for students during their studies. To guide the students to success the event will be surrounded with resume and LinkedIn workshops for immediate and practical advice.

Drop by Volunteer Expo to find volunteer opportunities that will get you the experience that you need and matches your skills and passion. Sept 11, 12 & 19 - Resume Workshop

Designed to help you understand what makes a good resumé and what employers look for when short listing candidates. You will learn about formatting, branding and how to create quantifiable accomplishment statements that give you a leg up on the competition.

Presented by Greg Chan, KPU English instructor. Greg has taught composition and literature courses for the last 22 years, in addition to business writing courses for UBC's Writing Centre and customized training for a variety of clients: the Sauder School of Business, the BC Safety Authority, HSBC, CGA Canada, Knight Piesold, Hatfield Consultants, Sanford Housing Society, MHPM Project Managers, and BC Hydro. Outside of the classroom, he proudly serves as the Community Outreach coordinator for KDocs, Kwantlen's official documentary film festival, and as the editor of the English Department's film studies journal, Mise-en-scene.

Sept 25 - Work 101

A workshop geared towards international and regular students looking for part-time work on and off campus. Some topics being covered are: requirements for working in Canada, Building a resume and cover letter, Finding Employment, and Volunteering & Co-operative Education.

Sept 27 - Out, Proud and Professional Workshop

An interactive and focused on those that identify on the LGBTQ2S spectrum and anyone looking to build and support open and inclusive workplaces. Some of the issues addressed in the workshop include:

  • Finding work
  • Identifying discrimination in hiring practices and within the workplace
  • Managing other workplace-related issues

Presented by Christopher Neep, a valued volunteer with Qmmunity whose passion it is to coach LGBTQ2S folks in their career paths. Having previously held a number of senior human resources leadership roles as well as senior leadership positions in financial services, government and hospitality, Christopher now channels his experience into the development of strong leaders through individual coaching, group development, change management and more. As a gay man, he works with clients on issues of coming out to themselves, family, friends and in the workplace. Christopher has an MBA from one of Europe’s leading business schools and is a professionally-trained coach.

Sept 28 - Personality Dimensions® Workshop

Free, fun and interactive! You will have the opportunity to participate in a self-assessment to identify your natural style, preferences and potential strengths as well as appreciate the strengths of others.

Personality Dimensions® will help you to:

  • Foster and deepen understanding of your natural strengths and motivation
  • Develop strategies to better communicate with and understand individuals of all temperaments
