Honours B.Sc (Turf Management, Oregon State University), P.I.D. (Ministry of Adv. Ed.)

Despite minor forays into Physical Education, cooking, forestry and truck driving, am now celebrating 45 years of Turfgrass Management experience! Started in teen years as golf course Groundsman, Irrigation Technician and early Golf Superintendent experience. After a few years of having more questions than answers, I embarked on pursuing a university Honours degree in Turfgrass Management from Oregon State University while entertaining a wife and 2 kids. Wise move to get a degree, as I suspected I might eventually end up teaching some day! Brief stints in university turfgrass research and as Assistant Superintendent before becoming Golf Superintendent at a local golf club and ending up here for over 10 years now.

I believe in hands-on student experiences with close industry interaction and societal paybacks; the ideal Polytechnic experience. Very proud of our students’ involvement with “Home Reno Makeover” and Turf Club charitable donations. I especially enjoy grooming students to become successful turfgrass managers and supporting alumni as they progress upwards in their careers.

Served the turf industry as WCTA Research Committee Chair, BCGSA Chapter President, WCTA Board member, Sports Turf Canada Board member, Conference organization, trade magazine writer and frequent guest speaker. Grounds volunteer at 8 national golf events.

I live in Cloverdale with my lovely wife Cathe, have 5 grown kids and 6 beautiful grandkiddies. Enjoy golf, cooking, travel, ballroom dancing and Montreal sport teams (sorry, my hometown!). Yes, my lawn is nice.
