Kwantlen Polytechnic University is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced student services professional for the position Director, Student Financial Services. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, vision and ongoing development, supervision, management, delivery, and benchmarking of the services provided across all campuses by the Student Awards and Financial Assistance (SAFA) Office. You will also be responsible for the execution of SAFA’s integration within KPU’s strategic enrolment management plan.  SAFA is one of three offices within the Office of the Registrar, and the Director reports to the University Registrar.


As Director, you will provide leadership for Student Awards and Financial Assistance staff and act as the University’s principal contact for provincial, federal and American student loan authorities. As a member of KPU’s Student Affairs leadership team, you will work closely with other Student Affairs units, as well as with students, Faculties and KPU’s Foundation.


Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in a related discipline and a minimum 5 years’ experience in a post -secondary student services environment with 3-5 years of increasing responsibility, including the supervision and management of staff. A minimum of 5 years of in-depth knowledge of Canadian post-secondary education systems with a demonstrated knowledge of student financial assistance issues, programs, processes and concepts are required.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record of effective team management while implementing change resulting in improvements to service quality, staff productivity and systems efficiency.  Demonstrated excellent computer skills using MS Office platforms and an intermediate knowledge of Banner (Student) or other similar student information systems are required.

KPU is currently offering an exciting opportunity for the consummate communicator, the Manager, Media and Communications.

Reporting to the Director, External and Government Affairs, this full time permanent position will be responsible for developing comprehensive communication plans for internal and external audiences and overseeing the implementation and evaluation of these plans and act as a University spokesperson.

Your previous experience as a journalist and a corporate communicator is integral to your success in this high-level position in which you will interact and consult with senior University administration to provide advice and guidance on a wide range of issues. 

You understand the ongoing need for solid communication planning, flawless execution and impeccable issues management and how these are vital to enhancing awareness of KPU and furthering the university’s strategic objectives with its key target audiences. 

In this role you will:

  • Manage and provide guidance on communication activities across the university, ensuring they are consistent with KPU’s institutional brand, mission, values and goals.  This includes managing the preparation of correspondence, reports and position papers, many of a highly confidential or sensitive nature.  
  • Prepare, execute and evaluate the university’s annual media relations plan and ancillary project plans throughout the year.
  • Assist with the development, execution and evaluation of internal communication plans.
  • Provide direct support and coaching to internal stakeholders on media relations, social media strategies and effective internal communication practices.
  • Consult and work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Take the lead on issues / reputation management as required.
  • Assist with the university’s crisis communication plan and be part of the crisis response team. 
  • Act for the Director, External and Government Affairs as required.

You have demonstrated experience researching, developing, implementing, managing and measuring media and communication activities and functions.  You know how to strategically leverage multiple communication channels to deliver consistent messaging across a large and complex organization and to the wider community.

Your extensive background as a journalist ensures you have a wide-reaching media network and a well-rounded knowledge of the current media landscape.

As an experienced corporate communicator you have already demonstrated how strategic internal communications can help foster employee engagement.

You are comfortable liaising with politicians and government officials at all levels, and have experience as a corporate spokesperson. 

This role includes external affairs and community engagement activities on behalf of KPU, and so entails working evenings and weekends as required to take part in networking and other events.  You will also be called upon to deliver presentations and speeches at external functions.

As a manager, you have a proven ability to plan, schedule and direct staff in a busy environment, always with attention to detail, a commitment to optimizing resources and a keen focus on meeting deadlines.

You have a demonstrated ability to quickly and independently evaluate issues for risk and benefit and can clearly and concisely articulate the appropriate response.  You are experienced at handling sensitive and confidential information, and work well under pressure.

The KPU-Regional School Districts Network Liaison is a position created collaboratively between the five (5) school districts and KPU.  Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President, Academic, KPU, the Liaison’s primary purpose will be to provide leadership in building collaborative arrangements in support of the KPU-Regional School Districts Network. The Liaison leads the development, administration and evaluation of various forms of educational partnerships. H/she acts as the lead contact with the five (5) school districts, KPU and at time, business, industry and government in pursuit of new learning opportunities for youth that fit within a larger, shared mission of supporting social and economic growth in the South Fraser/Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows regions.  The scope of partnership activities will be broad, ranging from career awareness to custom-designed technical programs and the conduct and development of institutional and industry-based training programs.  The challenges of this position include identification of strategic opportunities and the development of joint solutions built on high school-university-industry collaboration.  This position will initially be for a two year term commencing as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will have a Baccalaureate degree in education or related field, (Master’s degree preferred) and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking a Vice-Provost, Students who will lead initiatives to assist the University in promoting strategic enrolment management and the student experience and success during an exciting time of dynamic change and growth.  Reporting directly to the Provost & Vice-President, Academic, this position will commence as soon as possible and will be for a five year term with the possibility of renewal for a further five year term.   The position will be based at the Surrey Campus although multi-campus travel will frequently be required.

The Vice-Provost, Students (VPS) oversees the development, implementation, and management of strategies and policies related to student recruitment, retention, success, and engagement. In addition, the VPS is responsible for the arrangement and administration of non-academic support for students.  H/she is responsible for the overall leadership, development, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of a wide array of functions, activities and policies that affect student experience and success at KPU, including admissions and transfer credit, student financial aid and awards, enrolment management, athletics, career and co-op services, student information systems and student support systems across the University. The VPS is the primary university liaison between student leaders, the Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) and senior administration helping ensure the University is meeting the needs of a diverse student population by creating a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.  As a key member of the senior leadership team, the VPS provides leadership and vision on high priority initiatives and works closely and constructively with the Provost, Vice-Provosts, Deans, Directors and other members of the University’s senior administration as an integral part of the University’s planning process. The following Administrators report directly to the Vice-Provost, Students: University Registrar, Director of Student Engagement, Director of Counselling, Director of Athletics and Recreation, Director of Services for Students with Disabilities, and the Director of Co-op and Career Services. 

As a key member of the Provost's team, you will be expected to provide leadership and vision on high priority initiatives and work closely and constructively with the Provost, Vice-Provosts, Deans, Directors, other members of the university's senior administration and Kwantlen Student Association as an integral part of the University's planning process.  In this role you will also be required to support and enhance student recruitment and retention, successfully navigate complex governance processes and create and maintain cohesive working relationships and teams both within the internal and external KPU community.   


As the preferred candidate, you have a Doctorate degree in higher education, counselling, student services or other relevant discipline; or a minimum of a Master’s degree is required in one of the above disciplines, along with a minimum of five years experience working in progressive leadership roles in a post-secondary environment, including administrative leadership roles and direct involvement in student management.  Also required is a demonstrated track-record of successful post-secondary recruiting experience coupled with more recent successes in the area of enrolment management and/or student issues management.
