MANAGER, EMERGENCY PLANNING – Competition Number 14-34

 

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking a full-time permanent Manager, Emergency Planning to complement its Risk Services team.

 

The Manager, Emergency Planning is responsible for ensuring that KPU’s four University campuses are prepared for any emergency or disaster and that the institution is ready to manage and mitigate risk to the University’s property and its community of 20,000 students and staff members. 

 

As a member of the Risk Services team, s/he will be responsible for the continued development, implementation and leadership of emergency management plans, programs and activities at the University.  This leadership role encompasses assisting Faculties and operational departments with the planning, preparedness, and mitigation response as well as coordinating activities related to recovery and business continuity.  Duties include conducting emergency response exercises; developing and delivering training sessions in emergency preparedness; interacting with internal and external stakeholders; and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

 

Minimum qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or other related designation would be considered an asset.  A minimum of five years related emergency planning and preparedness experience including leadership responsibilities for emergency planning, preferably in an educational, municipal, health or consulting environment is also required.

MANAGER, ADMISSIONS & TRANSFER CREDIT – Competition Number 13-162

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has an exciting new opportunity for a Manager to lead our Admissions and Transfer Credit departments. This is a temporary position ending approximately October 31, 2015. In this role, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the departments, including accountability for the supervision and delivery of Admissions and Transfer Credit services across all KPU campuses. This will involve striving to enhance the delivery and quality of functions and services in accordance with the division of Student Affairs and Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s strategic plan. You will be further responsible for the ongoing management, delivery and benchmarking of service quality as well as development and coordination of training for staff across all campuses.

 

In this role, you will work closely with other Managers in the Student Affairs division on matters associated with the delivery of service in relation to student recruitment, admission, transfer credit evaluation, conversion, registration, program progression, graduation, and convocation. Strong leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a complex unionized environment are essential. A proven track record of effective team management and change implementation resulting in improvements to service quality, staff productivity and systems efficiency is necessary in this leadership role.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree as well as three to five years of management experience in a fast-paced customer service environment (preferably in a post secondary, student services setting) with increasing levels of responsibility. Outstanding presentation, written and verbal communication skills are essential as well as a demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service. In-depth knowledge of Canadian post secondary education systems is required as well as knowledge of Banner (Student) or other similar student information system.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is currently seeking a full-time permanent Confidential Assistant, Human Resource Services to work in the Human Resource Services department located on our Langley campus. 

Reporting to the Director, Employee Relations, the Confidential Assistant, Human Resource Services will provide a wide range of complex, diverse and confidential administrative support duties related to a variety of Human Resource functions.  These duties require considerable tact, discretion and diplomacy in preparing, processing and disclosing information of a confidential and sensitive nature for both internal and external client groups.

Minimum qualifications include Grade 12 plus completion of a certificate/diploma program in a field such as human resource management or office administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  Five years of recent relevant experience, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility plus proficiency with taking minutes and Microsoft Office applications is required.  The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational skills; the ability to prioritize workload and possess excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to interact and communicate with others at all levels of the organization.

ASSISTANT REGISTRAR, REPORTING AND SYSTEMS– Competition Number 14-59

The Office of the Registrar at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced individual for the position of Assistant Registrar.  This management position is responsible for student systems functional operations, operational and ad hoc reporting on student related data, and managing the maintenance of pan-divisional data including PENs and high school transcripts.  In this role, you will also provide leadership to the enrolment reporting team, define and implement the functional configuration of the university student information systems, and act as an internal business systems and procedures consultant to the Office of the Registrar and other student focused areas. This position will also act as the Associate Registrar, Registration, Records, and Systems, when the Associate Registrar is unavailable.

 

This Assistant Registrar position can be a step in the career path towards the role of Registrar.  Candidates will be recognized gurus in student information systems and have a detailed understanding of the broad responsibilities of the Office of the Registrar.  You should believe that “computers don’t make mistakes” – and be able to prove it by separating operator error from configuration error from genuine bug.  Your friends might call you a geek; and that’s a good thing because this position will see you authoring SQL, HTML, CSS, and Gantt charts.  Certification as a Microsoft Office Specialist in MS-Excel, MS-Word, and MS Access should be so easy, you’ve already done it.

 

KPU is a post-secondary institution – so you should have a strong understanding of how the academy runs, the role of faculty, and how curriculum and systems relate to each other. Experience in curriculum administration or logistics and a degree audit system is an asset.

The ability to communicate patiently and effectively with a diverse range of people and situations is vital in this role, as is the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with University administration, faculty, and staff.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience as a functional lead administering a Banner Student module (admissions, scheduling, registration, records, graduation) in or for the Office of the Registrar. If you’re the right “geek”, experience in a comparable student information system will do. Our office is fast paced and always changing, so your ability to problem solve, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines is the only way you’ll get the job done.

Qualifications for this new position include: a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, information technology, or library/archival science, plus a minimum of seven years recent related experience in or supporting the Office of the Registrar, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

The salary range for this position is $62,700 - $72,100 per year.

The Faculty of Trades & Technology located at KPU Tech reflects Kwantlen’ s commitment to the economic development in the South Fraser region and educational programs that will provide industry with the competent and highly-skilled graduates it requires.  KPU Tech provides leading-edge trades  programs for training ACE-IT, Foundation, Apprentice and  students in Appliance Servicing, Automotive  Service Technician, Carpentry, Electrical,  Farrier, Metal Fabrication, Millwright, Plumbing, Warehousing and Welding.  In addition, KPU Tech is home to technology programs in Public Safety Communications (9-1-1) and CADD Technologies.  Through CE and Professional Studies a variety of Industry Service Programs are supported and delivered.

A trade’s qualification with IP/Red Seal and/or a terminal credential preferably in a technology related field is considered an asset.

ASSISTANT MANAGER, FACILITIES OPERATIONS – Competition Number 14-65

 

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking an engaging and dynamic Assistant Manager, Facilities Operations to assist with the management of Facilities operational services across KPU’s four campuses.  This is a permanent full time position commencing in July 2014, and is located on our Surrey campus. 

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Operations this position will be part of a dynamic management team; overseeing and ensuring efficient delivery of multiple Facilities Service contracts; overseeing  front line service request delivery and maintenance for all KPU campuses; refining and developing standard operating procedures and processes within the Operations team; responding to urgent and emergency building system needs as required.

The Assistant Manager, Facilities Operations will ensure a high level of customer service with the University community and establish appropriate service levels ensuring a consistency of service throughout all campuses.  The successful candidate will deal with a high volume of service needs, with numerous competing priorities, including interactions with multiple users, contractors, and external agencies as needed. .

The successful candidate will have a diploma in Facilities Management or related discipline plus a minimum of three years’ recent related experience or equivalent. Exceptional leadership and supervisory skills are essential. Extensive knowledge of building systems and strong computer literacy skills are required as well as exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and a high degree of initiative. A valid BC driver’s license is needed for regular travel between campuses.
