Kwantlen Polytechnic University is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced student services professional for the position Director, Student Financial Services. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, vision and ongoing development, supervision, management, delivery, and benchmarking of the services provided across all campuses by the Student Awards and Financial Assistance (SAFA) Office. You will also be responsible for the execution of SAFA’s integration within KPU’s strategic enrolment management plan.  SAFA is one of three offices within the Office of the Registrar, and the Director reports to the University Registrar.

 

As Director, you will provide leadership for Student Awards and Financial Assistance staff and act as the University’s principal contact for provincial, federal and American student loan authorities. As a member of KPU’s Student Affairs leadership team, you will work closely with other Student Affairs units, as well as with students, Faculties and KPU’s Foundation.

 

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in a related discipline and a minimum 5 years’ experience in a post -secondary student services environment with 3-5 years of increasing responsibility, including the supervision and management of staff. A minimum of 5 years of in-depth knowledge of Canadian post-secondary education systems with a demonstrated knowledge of student financial assistance issues, programs, processes and concepts are required.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record of effective team management while implementing change resulting in improvements to service quality, staff productivity and systems efficiency.  Demonstrated excellent computer skills using MS Office platforms and an intermediate knowledge of Banner (Student) or other similar student information systems are required.

KPU-SCHOOL DISTRICTS NETWORK LIAISON – Competition Number 14-113

 

KPU is a regionally focused, undergraduate teaching led institution. Situated within the Metro Vancouver area and with an operating budget of approximately $130 million, KPU is a multi-sector polytechnic university offering a wide array of academic and applied degree programs including, undergraduate degree programs, trades and technology programs, developmental education programs, and one and two-year certificate and diploma programs to 19,500 students on campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Cloverdale. In addition to addressing regional community needs, KPU is committed to meeting the needs of learners from national and international jurisdictions by preparing them to live and work in an increasingly global context.

The KPU-Regional School Districts Network Liaison is a position created collaboratively between the five (5) school districts and KPU.  Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President, Academic, KPU, the Liaison’s primary purpose will be to provide leadership in building collaborative arrangements in support of the KPU-Regional School Districts Network. The Liaison leads the development, administration and evaluation of various forms of educational partnerships. H/she acts as the lead contact with the five (5) school districts, KPU and at time, business, industry and government in pursuit of new learning opportunities for youth that fit within a larger, shared mission of supporting social and economic growth in the South Fraser/Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows regions.  The scope of partnership activities will be broad, ranging from career awareness to custom-designed technical programs and the conduct and development of institutional and industry-based training programs.  The challenges of this position include identification of strategic opportunities and the development of joint solutions built on high school-university-industry collaboration.  This position will initially be for a two year term commencing as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will have a Baccalaureate degree in education or related field, (Master’s degree preferred) and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. As a confident and enthusiastic leader s/he believes in the importance of communication and working cooperatively to build positive relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.  This individual will be a strategic thinker with a proven capacity to be innovative and responsive, who will seek opportunities and embrace change.  S/he must be an excellent team leader, team player and an effective facilitator in helping individuals and groups agree on partnership goals.  Extensive project management and contract management skills and experience along with expert problem solving skills are essential.  The successful incumbent will be required to work independently and under the direction of a management and advisory committee structure. As frequent travel within the region will be required a valid B.C. Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle is necessary.

VICE PROVOST, STUDENTS – Competition Number 14-114

 

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking a Vice-Provost, Students who will lead initiatives to assist the University in promoting strategic enrolment management and the student experience and success during an exciting time of dynamic change and growth.  Reporting directly to the Provost & Vice-President, Academic, this position will commence as soon as possible and will be for a five year term with the possibility of renewal for a further five year term.   The position will be based at the Surrey Campus although multi-campus travel will frequently be required.

The Vice-Provost, Students (VPS) oversees the development, implementation, and management of strategies and policies related to student recruitment, retention, success, and engagement. In addition, the VPS is responsible for the arrangement and administration of non-academic support for students.  H/she is responsible for the overall leadership, development, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of a wide array of functions, activities and policies that affect student experience and success at KPU, including admissions and transfer credit, student financial aid and awards, enrolment management, athletics, career and co-op services, student information systems and student support systems across the University. The VPS is the primary university liaison between student leaders, the Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) and senior administration helping ensure the University is meeting the needs of a diverse student population by creating a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.  As a key member of the senior leadership team, the VPS provides leadership and vision on high priority initiatives and works closely and constructively with the Provost, Vice-Provosts, Deans, Directors and other members of the University’s senior administration as an integral part of the University’s planning process. The following Administrators report directly to the Vice-Provost, Students: University Registrar, Director of Student Engagement, Director of Counselling, Director of Athletics and Recreation, Director of Services for Students with Disabilities, and the Director of Co-op and Career Services. 

As a key member of the Provost's team, you will be expected to provide leadership and vision on high priority initiatives and work closely and constructively with the Provost, Vice-Provosts, Deans, Directors, other members of the university's senior administration and Kwantlen Student Association as an integral part of the University's planning process.  In this role you will also be required to support and enhance student recruitment and retention, successfully navigate complex governance processes and create and maintain cohesive working relationships and teams both within the internal and external KPU community.   

 

As the preferred candidate, you have a Doctorate degree in higher education, counselling, student services or other relevant discipline; or a minimum of a Master’s degree is required in one of the above disciplines, along with a minimum of five years experience working in progressive leadership roles in a post-secondary environment, including administrative leadership roles and direct involvement in student management.  Also required is a demonstrated track-record of successful post-secondary recruiting experience coupled with more recent successes in the area of enrolment management and/or student issues management.

MANAGER, STRATEGIC PLANNING AND QUALITY – Competition Number 14-122

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is looking for a Manager, Strategic Planning & Quality to join our Institutional Analysis & Planning department. This diverse role includes responsibility for development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of both quality assurance and planning processes for the University.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Institutional Analysis & Planning, the Manager will work closely with others including both internal and external committees. The Manager provides leadership and supervision to our Program Review Coordinator and Student Appraisals Coordinator, as well as research assistants, auxiliary workers, contractors, and co-op and practicum students.

Quality assurance responsibilities include oversight and support to the university’s program review and student appraisal of instruction processes. This involves cooperating with other University divisions to ensure quality assurances processes are efficiently serving the University. It also involves contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures and guidelines relating to quality assurance processes and facilitating program reviews, working closely with faculty members, department heads and Deans.

Planning responsibility encompasses supporting and facilitating university strategic planning and overseeing the process for providing data support for policy formulation and planning decisions.

Qualifications for this position are a graduate degree in an appropriate field, including courses in social science research methodology and quality assurance such as program review, evaluation and continuous process improvement coupled with five years’ recent experience in planning and quality assurance, preferably in the BC post-secondary environment. Leadership and supervisory experience and evidence of active professional development are also important.

The following knowledge and skillsets are also required:

  • Excellent analytic skills and the ability to systematically identify appropriate research methodologies for addressing key issues to ensure results support informed decision making.
  • Familiarity with the BC K-12 and Post-Secondary Education systems, and post-secondary education in other parts of Canada, the US, Australasia, and Europe.
  • Project management experience and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment. Superior organizational skills and the ability to manage competing demands on your time.
  • Effective and persuasive leadership style; comfortable at all levels of an organization. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with team/work groups to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and senior administrators and to present research findings and information of a complex, technical or sensitive nature to a variety of audiences in a clear, concise and effective way, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions among multiple stakeholders with various and sometimes conflicting interests to achieve a cohesive and quality approach to planning that meets organizational objectives.

The south Fraser region’s leading post-secondary institution Kwantlen Polytechnic University is currently seeking a Director, Compensation, Health and Benefits  who will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing and managing a wide range of human resource services that align with KPU’s strategic plan. 

 

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Administration and as a key member of the Human Resources team, this exciting high profile opportunity will be responsible for the development and delivery of specific programs and related systems that support employee engagement and development and that align institutional compensation, health and benefit program philosophies with KPU’s strategic objectives.

 

As a Director, the position leads and supervises a team of benefit specialists, including the selection, training and development of assigned staff.  The Director contributes to institutional success through compensation, health and benefit knowledge and experience, provision of leadership and strategic advice, and by working collaboratively with the Human Resource Services leadership team to ensure departmental and institutional objectives are met, and that KPU mission and values are supported. 

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years’ experience in increasing levels of responsibility including 3- 5 years’ experience in a management/leadership role.  The preferred candidate will hold a CHRP designation and possess in-depth knowledge and experience with compensation and benefit practices, programs and policies.  The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and demonstrate exceptional change management skills and have the ability to lead others by developing and maintaining plans and processes through cooperation and collaborations.
