COURSE AND SCHEDULING OFFICER – Competition Number 14-120A

The Office of the Registrar at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is currently seeking a temporary full-time Course and Scheduling Officer until approximately January 15, 2015 with the possibility of extension.  This position is responsible for maintaining the University course catalogue and producing and publishing the University Timetables.  The position is located on our Surrey campus. 

Academic schedulers are highly valued, behind-the-scenes support staff who work closely with the Faculties and their support staff.  The ideal candidate is tech-savvy – with a passion for learning MS-Excel and other software.  Detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated individuals will thrive in this role. The pace of the office is fast, and we are constantly growing our use of technology to do what we do, faster and better.  Come prepared to learn!

The successful candidate will have a two year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution.  Three years of experience in an academic support role, at least two of which are doing scheduling, plus training in a student information system or a logistics information system will prepare you for this position.  As reviewing and use of tabular data are key aspects of this position, strong Excel skills are essential.  An understanding of web publishing technologies and experience preparing and publishing web content is also required.

ACCOUNTING & COLLECTIONS OFFICER - Competition Number 14-156R       

Commencing immediately, we require a full-time Accounting and Collections Officer in our Financial Services Department on our Langley campus. The primary function of this position is to ensure the University’s bad debts from unpaid tuition are minimized through sound collection practices.  

Minimum requirements include completion of the second year of an accounting/business program supplemented with approximately three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated working knowledge of integrated finance accounting systems (preferably Banner); a demonstrated knowledge of common PC applications software such as spreadsheet, database and word processing; a demonstrated ability to communicate courteously and effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the post-secondary sector.  This is a unionized position with the BCGEU, and includes a comprehensive benefit package.  The salary range is $39,840 to $44,517.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) seeks a highly motivated individual with exceptional communication skills for a temporary Business Degree Advisor position in the School of Business from Nov 3, 2014 – Dec 31, 2015.

To support Business programs, KPU seeks to hire a skilled, experienced Business Degree Advisor who is ready to assist Business students with planning their educational programs.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Completed a four-year Business or related Baccalaureate degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Five years academic advising experience in a post secondary setting.  Additional experience in business-related career advising is an asset.
  • Familiarity with secondary and post-secondary education systems and their structures.
  • In-depth knowledge of the curricular nature of business degree programs and their development.
  • Outstanding accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in communicating policy and options for degree completion.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills to facilitate student appointments and coordinate projects with multiple, overlapping deadlines.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is recruiting for a part-time Instructional Associate to join our Access Programs for People with Disabilities (APPD) department at our Richmond campus. This is a temporary position from January 5, 2015 until June 2015. Hours of work are 22 hours per week.                               

In this role, you will provide assistance and support to students with multiple barriers to employment and liaise with faculty and staff. You will provide instruction, prepare classroom materials and training aids; identify, coordinate, and monitor work experience placements; support students with learning strategies in their work placements; contribute to the completion of student evaluations; and provide support to employers. You will also attend and participate in community events and perform administrative functions.  
 
Minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education or Adult Special Education plus a minimum of three years’ recent experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities. The ability to prepare classroom material and training aids as well as knowledge of the community including local business and community agencies is essential.

BIOLOGY LABORATORY INSTRUCTORS – Competition 14-167A

Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Science and Horticulture is seeking qualified auxiliary on-call lab instructors to work at our Surrey, Richmond and Langley campuses.

The Laboratory Instructor participates in the Biology Department with the overall course delivery by assuming responsibility for instruction, student guidance and assessment within a lab environment.  He or she may be assigned to work alongside other Laboratory Instructors (or a faculty member) or alone in fulfilling the above functions.  Lab responsibilities may involve any first and second year university level or applied program service courses offered in the Biology Department’s educational plan.

The successful candidate will have at a minimum, a B.Sc. in Biology; demonstrated good working knowledge of the course content and competence in laboratory techniques pertaining to the instruction of first year biology courses; demonstrated good working knowledge of the course content and competence in laboratory techniques pertaining to one or more of the following – genetics, cell biology, ecology, microbiology; and demonstrated ability to provide instruction to undergraduate students in a laboratory setting.
