INSTRUCTIONAL ASSOCIATE - ACCESS PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - Competition Number 14-111A

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is seeking applications for on-call auxiliary Instructional Associates for our Access Programs for People with Disabilities (APPD) Department which is on Richmond, Surrey, and Langley Campuses.

Using your exceptional communication abilities, you will provide assistance and support to students with multiple barriers to employment and liaise with faculty and staff. You will provide instruction, prepare classroom materials and training aids; identify, coordinate, and monitor work experience placements; support students with learning strategies in their work placements; contribute to the completion of student evaluations; and provide support to employers. You will also attend and participate in community events and perform administrative functions.  
 
Minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education or Adult Special Education plus a minimum of three years’ recent experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities. The ability to prepare classroom material and training aids as well as knowledge of the community including local business and community agencies is essential.

BIOLOGY LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR – Competition 14-115A

 

Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Science and Horticulture is seeking a qualified full-time (35 hours/week) lab instructor to work at our Langley campus, commencing August 25 to approximately April 30, 2015.

 

The Laboratory Instructor participates in the Biology Department with the overall course delivery by assuming responsibility for instruction, student guidance and assessment within a lab environment.  He or she may be assigned to work alongside other Laboratory Instructors (or a faculty member) or alone in fulfilling the above functions.  Lab responsibilities may involve any first and second year university level or applied program service courses offered in the Biology Department’s educational plan.

 

The successful candidate will have at a minimum, a B.Sc. in Biology; demonstrated good working knowledge of the course content and competence in laboratory techniques pertaining to the instruction of first year biology courses and ecology,  demonstrated good working knowledge of the course content and competence in laboratory techniques pertaining to one or more of the following – cell biology, genetics, microbiology; anatomy and physiology, and demonstrated ability to provide instruction to undergraduate students in a laboratory setting.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, FACULTY OF ARTS – Competition Number 14-114A

Kwantlen Polytechnic University seeks a highly motivated and organized individual for a three month, 35 hours per week, contract Administrative Assistant position supporting the Faculty of Arts.  This position provides opportunity to be challenged with a variety of responsibilities in an academic environment. Reporting to the Business Manager, the position will be responsible for providing administrative support for the Office of the Dean, working closely with various Chairs (Anthropology, Geography, and Sociology).  This position will predominately be located on the Surrey campus.

Qualified candidates will have completed a four-year baccalaureate degree from a publically accredited post-secondary institution and five years recent related experience that demonstrates increasing levels of responsibility and supervisory experience.  Work experience in a post-secondary environment or in a highly complex administrative environment is an asset.  They will possess superior accuracy and attention to detail particularly in editing documents and record-keeping, and superior time-management and organizational skills in coordinating projects and meeting multiple overlapping deadlines in an office environment with frequent interruptions and changing demands.  Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, is essential, as well as work experience to demonstrate their ability to patiently and effectively deal with a diverse range of people in a pleasant and professional manner.  They will also possess a proven ability to handle confidential matters and materials with tact and discretion, work independently under minimal supervision, and adapt quickly to new technologies and ongoing organizational transitions.  Minimum required typing speed is 50 wpm and a working knowledge of English is mandatory.  Experience with financial budgets is an asset.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo testing in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, written communication, quantitative skills, and typing.

STUDENT RECRUITMENT COORDINATOR – Competition Number 14-113A

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has an immediate opening for a full-time, temporary Student Recruitment Coordinator in the Future Students’ Office.  This position is available immediately until approximately early March 2015 and is mainly located at our Surrey campus. 

About Kwantlen Polytechnic University

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has four university campuses across the Lower Mainland in Surrey, Langley, Cloverdale and Richmond. KPU currently has over 120 programs including those in the areas of arts, business, science, design, health studies, horticulture, trades and much more.

About the Position

As a Student Recruitment Coordinator, you will use your dynamic public speaking skills to present information about KPU to a wide variety of audiences for the purpose of identifying and recruiting prospective students. Your experience and knowledge of post-secondary education will be used to advise prospective students and present options to meet their education and/or career goals.

In this role, you will develop and build relationships with individuals and groups, including secondary school students, parents, counselors, career advisors, school district personnel, government officials, businesses and community agencies. You will travel across the lower mainland and occasionally areas of Canada to provide information, advice, and guidance regarding student career goals, and access to KPU’s programs.

This position reports to the Manager, Student Recruitment and is responsible for organizing and conducting community visits, career fairs, tradeshows and outreach events; as well as coordinate administrator, faculty or staff presentations.  Other duties may include: compiling documentation, inquiry responses, enrollment management, online interactive communications, database management and peer training support.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ professional public speaking experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Proven ability to be flexible in adapting speaking and presentation style to people of various backgrounds and cultures, preferably to small and large groups up to 100+. Proven ability to present and convey appropriate and diplomatic responses to questions under pressure. Excellent communication, customer service and public relations experience is a must. Up-to-date knowledge of secondary school systems, KPU’s course programs and offerings; knowledge of education and employment trends, and an ability to represent the university with discretion and diplomacy is essential. An ability to adapt and be flexible in a constantly changing work environment is essential. The successful candidate must be able to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility and work independently and establish own priorities and meet deadlines. A valid BC driver’s license, as well as has access to a vehicle for work purposes is also required. Due to the nature of the work, some evening and weekend work is required.
