INSTRUCTIONAL ASSOCIATE - ACCESS PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - Competition Number 14-111A

KPU is seeking applications for on-call auxiliary Instructional Associates for our Access Programs for People with Disabilities (APPD) Department which is on Richmond, Surrey, and Langley Campuses.

Using your exceptional communication abilities, you will provide assistance and support to students with multiple barriers to employment and liaise with faculty and staff. You will provide instruction, prepare classroom materials and training aids; identify, coordinate, and monitor work experience placements; support students with learning strategies in their work placements; contribute to the completion of student evaluations; and provide support to employers. You will also attend and participate in community events and perform administrative functions.  
 
Minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education or Adult Special Education plus a minimum of three years’ recent experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities. The ability to prepare classroom material and training aids as well as knowledge of the community including local business and community agencies is essential.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT – FASHION DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY, CHIP AND SHANNON WILSON SCHOOL OF DESIGN - Competition Number 14-98R

The Chip and Shannon Wilson School of Design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has an immediate opening for a full time permanent Program Assistant Fashion Design and Technology located on our Richmond campus.

The Program Assistant provides assistance and support to faculty and students in the Fashion Design and Technology program, including setting up, troubleshooting and maintaining fashion design and technology equipment and providing demonstrations and assistance to students in equipment use. This position is also responsible for maintaining inventory records, updating websites and social media pages as well assisting with both internal and external events and activities. 

The successful candidate will be a graduate of a degree program in Business Administration, Marketing or Fashion with related fashion experience. They will have a strong ability to work in a digital environment working with software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite at an intermediate level, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe CS6 and Photoshop.  Preference will be given to those with demonstrated Gerber and Digitizing software experience.

This individual will bring demonstrated skill in preparing written correspondence, record keeping, cataloguing and managing electronic files. Excellent communication skills both written and oral is required, as well as work experience to demonstrate their ability to patiently and effectively deal with a diverse range of people.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, FACULTY OF ARTS – Competition Number 14-136A

Kwantlen Polytechnic University seeks a highly motivated and organized individual for a full-time seven month Administrative Assistant position supporting the Faculty of Arts.  This position provides opportunity to be challenged with a variety of responsibilities in an academic environment. Reporting to the Business Manager, the position will be responsible for providing administrative support for the Office of the Dean, working closely with curriculum.

Qualified candidates will have completed a four-year baccalaureate degree from a publically accredited post-secondary institution and five years recent related experience that demonstrates increasing levels of responsibility and supervisory experience.  Work experience in a post-secondary environment or in a highly complex administrative environment is an asset.  They will possess superior accuracy and attention to detail particularly in editing documents and record-keeping, and superior time-management and organizational skills in coordinating projects and meeting multiple overlapping deadlines in an office environment with frequent interruptions and changing demands.  Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, is essential, as well as work experience to demonstrate their ability to patiently and effectively deal with a diverse range of people in a pleasant and professional manner.  They will also possess a proven ability to handle confidential matters and materials with tact and discretion, work independently under minimal supervision, and adapt quickly to new technologies and ongoing organizational transitions.  Minimum required typing speed is 50 wpm and a working knowledge of English is mandatory.  Experience with financial budgets is an asset.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo testing in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, written communication, quantitative skills, and typing.

SPECIALTY SEWING EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN- CHIP AND SHANNON WILSON SCHOOL OF DESIGN - Competition Number 14-143R

The Chip and Shannon Wilson School of Design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has an immediate opening for a full time permanent Specialty Sewing Equipment Technician located on our Richmond campus.

The Specialty Sewing Equipment Technician is responsible for operating and installing specialty equipment, performing routine machine maintenance and testing machinery in support of various Design programs.  This position is responsible for testing and development of learning materials on production lab safety and safe use of specialty equipment. 

The successful candidate will have five years demonstrated knowledge/expertise in apparel manufacturing equipment and garment construction or a combination of related training and experience. They will have demonstrated experience in monitoring student activity in a production lab environment, ensuring the safe handling of materials, tools and equipment.  Extensive demonstrated experience with the safe use of machinery applicable to the apparel industry and knowledge WCB safe work procedures for the apparel manufacturing industry.

This individual will bring an ability to display initiative, discretion and meet changing priorities; to tolerate ambiguity; to work on multiple tasks simultaneously; meet deadlines and make responsible decisions. The ability to work flexible hours is required.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE AND STUDENT AFFAIRS COORDINATORS

 

Competition Number 14-140R – Richmond Campus

Competition Number 14-141R – Surrey Campus

 

The Office of International Students & Scholars at Kwantlen Polytechnic University has two openings for full-time regular International Exchange & Student Affairs Coordinators, one primarily for our Richmond campus and one primarily for our Surrey campus. In this role, you will provide leadership in the coordination of innovative activities, programs and services that support domestic students in their international education interests as well as international students in their academic pursuits. You will be responsible for designing, planning, delivering and evaluating international exchange and field school student activities, workshops and events that nurture inclusion in student life and the university community. You will also act as an advocate for international exchange students and will liaise with both University and external community services. You will provide leadership and supervision to assigned team members and perform various administrative functions.

 

This position requires a minimum of three (3) years’ experience coordinating student mobility at a post-secondary institution, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory position, as well as successful completion of an undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A working knowledge of Canadian immigration policies and procedures, and experience planning and presenting events, activities and workshops is required. Competency in navigating in Banner or similar student records system is needed as well intermediate skill using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication and cross-cultural skills, including a proven ability to communicate effectively in English with an ethnically diverse group of people. Proficiency in languages other than English is an asset. Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and independently.

 

This position requires the ability to work some evenings and weekends in order to attend and execute international student events and activities. A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle is needed for travel between campuses and throughout the communities that KPU serves.
