Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Science and Horticulture is currently seeking applications for a full-time laboratory instructor in our Brewing and Brewery Operations diploma program. Working under the direction of the Dean, Faculty of Science and Horticulture, the incumbent will assist faculty with the overall course delivery by assuming responsibility for instruction, student guidance and assessment in the lab component of any course within the program. This position is dependent on on-going funding.
The successful applicant will possess a B.Sc. degree in either chemistry or biology, and equivalent specialized training, supplemented by previous related laboratory experience, coupled with a thorough knowledge of the course content, laboratory and field equipment and techniques pertaining to the instruction of Brewing and Brewery Operations. The Faculty of Trades and Technology is currently seeking a temporary part-time (28 hr/wk) Divisional Program Technician to support various trades programs such as, but not limited to Millwright, Welding, Automotive, Carpentry, Plumbing and Electrical. The successful candidate will provide support and assistance to students and faculty by providing demonstrations, monitoring shop work and maintaining inventory and repairs of workshop materials, machine tools and equipment. This position may cover the daytime shift (7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) or the evening shift (2:00 to 10:00 p.m.) as necessary, Tuesday to Friday. Additional hours may be required. It is anticipated this position will run until approximately December 19, 2014.
Minimum qualifications include entry level TQ in construction electrician supplemented by two – three years related experience supporting vocational trades programs. Demonstrated experience in the safe use of shop equipment, materials, tools and machinery, demonstrated experience supporting electronic and/or electrical training, experience with inventory controls including ordering, tracking, maintenance and installation is required. Knowledge of WHMIS, safe work procedures, experience in monitoring student activity in a shop environment, and competence in Microsoft Outlook and MS Office. Also required is the ability to operate and maintain forklift/workshop vehicles and have Forklift certification, the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and the physical ability to lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
