INSTRUCTIONAL ASSOCIATE - ACCESS PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - Competition Number 14-111A

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is seeking applications for on-call auxiliary Instructional Associates for our Access Programs for People with Disabilities (APPD) Department which is on Richmond, Surrey, and Langley Campuses.

Using your exceptional communication abilities, you will provide assistance and support to students with multiple barriers to employment and liaise with faculty and staff. You will provide instruction, prepare classroom materials and training aids; identify, coordinate, and monitor work experience placements; support students with learning strategies in their work placements; contribute to the completion of student evaluations; and provide support to employers. You will also attend and participate in community events and perform administrative functions.  
 
Minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education or Adult Special Education plus a minimum of three years’ recent experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities. The ability to prepare classroom material and training aids as well as knowledge of the community including local business and community agencies is essential.

STUDENT RECRUITMENT COORDINATOR – Competition Number 14-113A

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has an immediate opening for a full-time, temporary Student Recruitment Coordinator in the Future Students’ Office.  This position is available immediately until approximately early March 2015 and is mainly located at our Surrey campus. 

About Kwantlen Polytechnic University

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has four university campuses across the Lower Mainland in Surrey, Langley, Cloverdale and Richmond. KPU currently has over 120 programs including those in the areas of arts, business, science, design, health studies, horticulture, trades and much more.

About the Position

As a Student Recruitment Coordinator, you will use your dynamic public speaking skills to present information about KPU to a wide variety of audiences for the purpose of identifying and recruiting prospective students. Your experience and knowledge of post-secondary education will be used to advise prospective students and present options to meet their education and/or career goals.

In this role, you will develop and build relationships with individuals and groups, including secondary school students, parents, counselors, career advisors, school district personnel, government officials, businesses and community agencies. You will travel across the lower mainland and occasionally areas of Canada to provide information, advice, and guidance regarding student career goals, and access to KPU’s programs.

This position reports to the Manager, Student Recruitment and is responsible for organizing and conducting community visits, career fairs, tradeshows and outreach events; as well as coordinate administrator, faculty or staff presentations.  Other duties may include: compiling documentation, inquiry responses, enrollment management, online interactive communications, database management and peer training support.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ professional public speaking experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Proven ability to be flexible in adapting speaking and presentation style to people of various backgrounds and cultures, preferably to small and large groups up to 100+. Proven ability to present and convey appropriate and diplomatic responses to questions under pressure. Excellent communication, customer service and public relations experience is a must. Up-to-date knowledge of secondary school systems, KPU’s course programs and offerings; knowledge of education and employment trends, and an ability to represent the university with discretion and diplomacy is essential. An ability to adapt and be flexible in a constantly changing work environment is essential. The successful candidate must be able to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility and work independently and establish own priorities and meet deadlines. A valid BC driver’s license, as well as has access to a vehicle for work purposes is also required. Due to the nature of the work, some evening and weekend work is required.

BUYER, PURCHASING SERVICES - Competition Number 14-123A

 

Kwantlen is currently seeking a temporary full-time Buyer for the Purchasing Services Department located at the Langley campus.

 

Reporting to the Manager of Purchasing Services this position is part of the purchasing team that is responsible duties including developing specifications for various goods and services such as supplies, capital equipment, technical services, obtaining bids and preparing purchase orders.

 

This position is responsible for expediting orders and resolving problems relating to delivery and pricing, interpreting and explaining University buying procedures to staff and vendors. 

 

Minimum qualifications include grade 12education and at least one-year post secondary education supplemented by 2 to 5 years related purchasing, accounting or related administrative support experience.  A demonstrated ability to draft correspondence, recognize, analyze and resolve problems, communicate courteously and effectively both verbally and in writing in English, work independently, establish priorities and meet deadlines is also required.  Further required qualifications include a demonstrated experience using. Microsoft Office, (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint and Word).

 

Experience with competitive bidding processes, contract development and administration, resolution of contract issues, and vendor negotiations is considered and post-secondary work experience is considered an asset. Training similar to or leading to the PMAC certificate in Purchasing such as computerized procurement and experience with Banner and FAST Millennium for web requisition processes is also considered an asset.

CHEMISTRY LAB INSTRUCTOR – Competition Number 14-127A

 

 

Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Science and Horticulture is currently seeking applications for an auxiliary chemistry lab instructor to work approximately 30 hours per week on our Surrey campus, commencing September 8 to approximately December 19, 2014. 

 

The incumbent will deliver the pre-lab instruction, which includes experimental objectives, methods and/or techniques including theory, equations and calculations.

 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry; a good command of the English language; a good working knowledge of the course content and laboratory techniques pertaining to preparatory, first and second year chemistry courses; and, a good working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus.
