Kwantlen's Fiorido and Kokoska named President’s Most Outstanding Athletes

Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Department of Athletics and Recreation honoured the athletic and academic accomplishments of its varsity athletes at its annual Athletics Banquet at the Coast Hotel and Convention Centre in Langley. 

Top honours went to Michela Fiorido (Surrey) of the women’s soccer and basketball team and Kevin Kokoska (Langley) of the men’s basketball team, who were named the President’s Most Outstanding Athletes. Presented to a male and female student-athlete, this honour recognizes outstanding commitment to the program, demonstrated leadership, and academic achievement with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. 

26 awards were presented to student-athletes throughout the evening, including: 

Michela Fiorido (Surrey), women’s soccer and basketball - the President's Award of Distinction award; SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian; British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Association (BCCAA) Academic Excellence award; BCCAA second team All-star; team academic award (soccer and basketball) and the female recipient of the Joseph Segal Family Leadership Award. 
Kevin Kokoska (Langley), men’s basketball – the President's Award of Distinction award; team academic award and the Patrick Dooley Memorial Award. 
Shannon Booth (Surrey), women’s soccer team – BCCAA first team All-star; co-team academic award, and the Most Valuable Player award. 
Brittany McNeill (Delta), women’s soccer – the Charter Buslines Freshman Academic award for the highest undergraduate grade point average in the first semester; BCCAA second team All-star; SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian 
Thomas Johnston (Surrey), men’s soccer team – the Charter Buslines Freshman Academic award for the highest undergraduate grade point average in the first semester; team academic award. 

Additional awards were presented, including a commemorative plaque honouring Murray Gage Cole as a builder for his years of service as head coach and general manger of the men’s baseball team; and graduating athlete plaques were given to Hsiao-Chung Lee (badminton) and Shannon Booth (soccer) for completing their fifth year of eligibility.
