Kwantlen honours Surrey graduate with Governor General’s Silver Medal

Fri, Jun 5, 2009

Heather Borch, Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate and Surrey resident, received the Governor General's Silver Medal at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s 2009 Convocation ceremony held at its Surrey Campus.

Borch came to Kwantlen four years ago with the hope of becoming a pediatric nurse. After an inspiring university experience and a solid education from Kwantlen, Borch is excited to start her incredibly rewarding career as a nurse. She plans to specialize in pediatric nursing and continue to hone her skills and training at Langley Memorial Hospital.

Borch attributes the support and dedication of Kwantlen faculty for helping her realize her dream. “At first, I picked Kwantlen because it was close to home but I didn’t expect to meet so many remarkable people. The nursing faculty are absolutely amazing and it was their kindness and devotion to seeing us grow and succeed that made all the difference; I thank them for that,” remarked Borch.

In the future, she looks forward to earning her master’s degree in pediatric nursing, and studying developmental disorders and treatment options.

On behalf of the Governor General of Canada, this medal, being presented for the first time, is awarded to a Kwantlen student who, in the opinion of the selection committee, has attained the highest academic standing in the graduation year of a bachelor’s degree program. It is one of the highest academic honours Kwantlen can bestow.
