KPU fashion design students compete for top scholarship during
Montreal Fashion Week

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) KPU fashion design students Earl Mabaquiao, Laura Nickel, and Kristen Yip emerged among top design talents from schools across Canada to enter the TÉLIO Design Competition 2011. As finalists, they will have the chance to showcase their creations on the runway during Montreal Fashion Week and compete for five scholarships totalling $10,000.

In the preliminary selection process, Mabaquiao, Nickel and Yip submitted design sketches, based on the theme of the Great Canadian North, that were judged by a jury comprised of acclaimed fashion industry professionals who selected 25 finalists among hundreds of submissions.

In the final round of the competition, participants will materialize their sketches and present them to a panel of judges during Montreal Fashion Week. Five garments demonstrating outstanding creativity, best technical skills and respect of the theme will be awarded one of five scholarships totalling $10,000. The winners will be announced in March, 2011.

The TÉLIO Design Competition, organized by Montreal based textile company TÉLIO, is an annual fashion design event in which students are asked to design a unique and authentic creation that will identify their garment as the new “must have” item for a high-end retail company while using intricate techniques to incorporate art in fashion.
