KPU to host the 16th Annual Fraser Valley Acoustic Guitar Festival

Thu, Jan 3, 2013
  • Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is proud to host the 16th Annual Fraser Valley Acoustic Guitar Festival. The featured concert will take place at KPU’s Langley campus auditorium on February 16, 2013, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Don Ross, the only two-time winner of the US National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship, will headline the evening with special guests Victor Kolstee (flamenco guitarist) and Paul Pigat (rockabilly guitarist).

As part of the festival these artists will also share their talents and passion with high school students at a workshop on Thursday, February 14. The event continues on Saturday afternoon, February 16, when Don Ross conducts a workshop and master class for KPU guitar students.

“This festival has three main objectives. The first is to give young players from high schools the opportunity to be inspired and learn from world-class players,” said Don Hlus, chair, music department, KPU. “The second is to give Kwantlen music students the opportunity to work with experienced musicians who are making a living in this very competitive field. Finally, the featured concert is a way to give the general community, who support Kwantlen in so many different ways, a chance to hear world-class artists in their own backyard without the big city ticket prices.”

Tickets are $20 in advance ($30 at the door) for adults and $15 in advance ($25 at the door) for students and seniors. For more information, or to purchase tickets for this February 16 event, please visit Kwantlen.ca/guitar.

KPU’s bachelor of music in musical arts degree includes thorough instruction in the essential elements of music (solo performance, ensembles, music theory, aural musicianship, music history with aspects of business and education). Visit kwantlen.ca/arts/music for more information.
