Record enrollment this Fall at KPU

Metro Vancouver, BC – The numbers are in, and they're better than ever.

This fall, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has the largest number of students enrolled in the institution's 30-year history, with 14,382 students (as of September 9) attending classes this semester. The total number of students is several hundred higher when compared with the start of the fall 2012 term, with increased enrolments of both domestic and international students.

"KPU's importance to the region increases along with its enrolments. We are proud to contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of our communities," says KPU President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Alan Davis.

In addition to overall growth, KPU has seen notable increases in specific areas, as compared with fall 2012 numbers:

  • The 1,357 international students studying at KPU this fall is up by close to 12% compared with last year's start of semester figures
  • Students enrolled in online classes is up by 24%
  • The Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology is welcoming its first 24 students this semester
  • 10% more students have enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program
  • Students seeking a Certificate in Special Education Teaching is up 23%
  • Those studying offsite – for work experience, clinical experience, practicum – is up 30%, with 407 students out learning in the community
  • The School of Business's largest program – Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting – has over 8% increased enrolment
  • Enrolment in the Faculty of Arts is up 7%
  • English has the highest enrolment out of all Arts departments with 2,231 students
  • Criminology enrolment is up 26% compared with last year
  • Students taking courses in Science and Horticulture is up 4%
