Abbotsford Heat/KPU Eagles Athletes of the Week - January 19, 2014

Metro Vancouver, BC … Devan Haynes, men’s basketball and Christina Brown, women’s basketball, are the Abbotsford Heat/KPU Eagles Athletes of the Week, for the week ending January 19, 2014. 

Brown, a third year women’s basketball player from Langley, BC made three “key” three point shots in KPU’s victory over Langara College 44-39, on Saturday night, in Vancouver.  The veteran guard scored 13 points and pulled down 4 total rebounds in the victory that improved the Eagles record to 4-8 and a tie for 6th place in the PACWEST conference.   “Christina played 40 minutes on the weekend in both games, she was a great leader on the court and did a great job on defense,” commented KPU head coach Dan Nayebzadeh. 

Haynes, the fifth year forward from Sechelt, BC was a workhorse on the weekend leading KPU to a very important 66-61 victory over Douglas College on Friday night, in New Westminster, BC.  Haynes scored 28 points in the two weekend games, pulled down 12 rebounds and recorded 4 assists.  “Devan was very aggressive in the paint, going to the free throw line 12 times on the weekend,” said KPU head coach Stefon Wilson.
