Richmond, B.C. – Four of B.C.’s leading post-secondary institutions have partnered to co-host the 'Ready, Set, Hire!' career exposition March 5 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), Vancouver Island University (VIU), Camosun College and Langara College are co-hosting the inaugural event that will bring their business students and alumni face-to-face with over 30 different companies doing business globally. Attendees will have the chance to network with recruiters looking to hire the best and brightest business students and graduates, as well as participate in workshops throughout the day.

Andrew Blair, a fourth-year student in KPU’s bachelor of business administration (BBA) program, says his career has benefited from the guidance and support of professionals he has met during networking events.

"The knowledge and experience you gain in events like ‘Ready, Set, Hire!’ cannot be replicated in a classroom,” he says.

According to Nicole Poole – coordinator of KPU’s career services, and one of the event’s main organizers – creating this opportunity for business students has been a two-year venture, but well worth the wait for everyone involved.

“It’s such a great opportunity for both students and grads to meet some of business’s top employers. At the same time, putting on this event has fostered stronger collaboration between four B.C. post-secondary institutions, as it was a chance for us to share resources and best practices to make the event that much more of a success,” says Poole.

“‘Ready, Set, Hire!’ is also an invaluable opportunity for companies to directly meet and evaluate over 600 ready-to-work students and alumni, specializing in over 10 business-focused academic areas and levels,” she says. “KPU is set to bring several hundred of our best and brightest students, many of whom I am confident will be employed by the end of day.”

Exhibitors at the career exposition include companies in finance and banking, real estate, insurance, human resources, retail, accounting, government and the tourism sector.

Opportunities for businesses to exhibit at the career fair are also available.
