Celebrated beer enthusiast Joe Wiebe gives first talk to KPU brew students

Metro Vancouver, B.C. – B.C.’s next generation of brewers and brewery owners learned about the province’s craft beer revolution today from the man who wrote the book.

Joe Wiebe, author of Craft Beer Revolution: The Insider’s Guide to B.C. Breweries, gave his first class lecture to Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) inaugural brew students, sharing his insight about the “unprecedented and incredible” pace at which the industry is growing.

With breweries popping up everywhere, from Vancouver, to Port Moody, to Terrace, to Abbotsford – students learned about B.C.’s changing beer history, and how the business has shifting from large breweries that service the province, to local ones that serve their community with locally-made craft products.

Wiebe was the first of several guest speakers lined up to speak to KPU students about the industry’s economics, ethics and policies.

“This brewing program is really exciting to me to see – the fact that this program is now an option for people here who want to enter the industry and want to get trained locally,” said Wiebe, who is currently working on the second edition of his book, slated to come out in March.

More information about KPU’s brewing and brewery operations program is available at kpu.ca/brew. There will also be an information session held at KPU Langley (20901 Langley Bypass – room 1030) on Nov. 25 at 6 p.m.
