Annual Fraser Valley Acoustic Guitar Festival back on Feb. 28

Tue, Feb 17, 2015

Langley, B.C. – An internationally acclaimed classical guitarist will headline the 18th annual Fraser Valley Acoustic Guitar Festival, hosted by Kwantlen Polytechnic University's (KPU) Department of Music.

Hailing from Greece, Antigoni Goni will bring classical stylings from what has been a truly global career to KPU Langley Saturday, Feb. 28. Goni has performed extensively in Europe, Russia, the Americas and the Far East. Described by The New York Times as an “eloquent player with a graceful touch and a rich sound,” she is the first and only Greek guitarist to win the Guitar Foundation of America competition.

The evening concert will also include performances from special guests Jeff Bowman and Les Finnigan.

Bowman is a Canadian jazz guitarist whose performing experiences range from the Merritt Mountain Music Festival to the Hope Mountain Blues Festival. Finnigan has been featured on CBC Radio and in films, documentaries and television commercials. Two of his recordings have been nominated for Western Canadian Music Awards. He has also been nominated for the Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Instrumentalist - Solo.

The public event caps off the three-day festival, which provides a full day of music workshops to high school students, and special classes with Goni for high school and university-level musicians.

Advance tickets to the featured concert are $25 for adults or $35 at the door. Advance tickets for students and seniors are $20 or $30 at the door. More information are available here.
