Four KPU fashion students hit Saskatchewan's biggest runway

Richmond, B.C. – This week, four Wilson School of Design students will showcase collections at Saskatchewan Fashion Week (SFW).

Bianca Hartle, Lisa Siperko, Karley Scovell and Saskatchewan native Blair McDonald, all final-year students in Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) fashion design and technology degree program, have been specially invited to participate alongside 21 Saskatchewan-based designers at the three-day, high-profile event.

“For me, showing at Saskatchewan Fashion week is like coming home. I feel like I've made it full circle in the past four years. So to be able to show my collection there in my home province means so much to me and is incredibly special to me,” said McDonald, whose line Marianna features glamourous 1950s style dresses, repurposed clothing and incredible handcraft. “I’m very excited for the opportunity.”

All four emerging designers launched their collections in April at KPU’s 2015 Fashion Show, which featured the thesis work of 39 graduating fashion design students. Hartle’s line Vita Bici is dedicated to sophisticated and feminine motorcycle wear for women that doesn’t sacrifice safety features; Fox Du Nuit by Scovell was a line of burlesque wear inspired by the luxury of Ancient Egypt, and; Siperko’s self-titled line offers sophisticated and fashion-forward resort wear for mature women.

The link between KPU and SFW came from connections made and fostered at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards in Toronto earlier this year.
