Langley, B.C. – Grammy-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux will headline the 19th annual Fraser Valley Acoustic Guitar Festival, hosted by Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) Department of Music.
Considered a member of today’s classical guitarist elite, Vieaux has performed with nearly 100 orchestras as a concerto soloist, and has recorded over a dozen albums. His most recent – Play – won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo.
Vieaux’s solo recitals have been a feature at every major guitar series in North America, and at other important festivals in Asia, Australia and Europe. On Feb. 27, he will bring his award-winning talent to Langley in a one-night performance to remember.
For 19 years, the Fraser Valley Acoustic Guitar Festival has brought critically acclaimed acoustics to local music enthusiasts. This year, these include lutenist Konstantin Bozhinov and classical guitarist James Devon.
The festival has also served to introduce young musicians to world-class artists, providing high school and university students the opportunity to learn and work with seasoned musicians. This year, music students from across the region will have the chance to study with Vieaux, who has taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music since 1997, headed its guitar department since 2001, and co-founded The Curtis Institute of Music’s guitar department.
Vieaux’s performance on Feb. 27 starts at 7:30 p.m. and will feature songs by Pat Metheny, Duke Ellington, Bach, Albeniz, Bellinati and more. Tickets start at $20 for students and seniors, and $25 for adults.
