KDocs screening documentaries at KPU for Pride Week

Surrey, B.C. – KDocs is bringing two critically acclaimed CBC documentaries to a Pride Week screening at KPU Surrey this month.

KDocs Community Outreach, which is a partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), will bring How We Got Gay and Transforming Gender to KPU’s Surrey campus on Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 9 p.m.

In addition to showing the two documentaries, the event will include a special panel of KPU students, faculty and community activists following the films.

Moderated by Be the Change Group Inc. founder Brandy Svendson, the event features a keynote address by KPU’s Gerald Walton, a KPU educational studies faculty member, activist and author of The Gay Agenda.

Other panelists:

  • Ryot Jey, KPU student, Kwantlen Public Interest Research Group, and Pride Kwantlen
  • Tara Lyons, KPU criminology faculty
  • Kari Michaels, Kwantlen Student Association representative and co-founder, Women Organizing Opportunities for Women

The event is free, but seating is limited. It takes place at KPU Surrey, 12666-72nd Ave., Surrey, in Fir Building, Room 128. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the first documentary screening at 6 p.m.
