Watch the 1990 version of 'The Handmaid's Tale'

Wed, Feb 14, 2018

February 25 - March 3 marks 2018's Freedom to Read Week, an annual event that celebrates intellectual freedom in Canada.  Intellectual Freedom is a term that encompasses many things; among them: the right to access information, the right to choose what you read, and the right to freedom of expression.

To mark the occasion, Coast Capital Savings Library is pleased to offer a free, drop-in movie screening of the 1990 film adaptation of 'The Handmaid's Tale' for KPU students and employees at Surrey campus library on Friday, March 2.

'The Handmaid's Tale' was written by Margaret Atwood in 1985 and has been challenged for its inclusion in an Ontario school system's grade 12 class; in 2009, the Toronto District School Board "recommended that schools keep the novel in the curriculum in Grades 11 and 12" (Freedom to Read, Challenges).

Please note this film is rated 'R' and some content may not be suitable for all viewers.
