TALK into the evening – more educational options added for the over 50s

Tue, Sep 25, 2018

Third Age Learning at Kwantlen (TALK), which offers creative and stimulating educational activities for adults over 50, has added evening sessions to its schedule for the first time.

Organizers of TALK added evening sessions on gang violence and storytelling to complement their broad range of daytime sessions on topics as diverse as linguistics and acupuncture. TALK also hosts several Philosophers’ Corner events that feature moderated discussion on a chosen topic.

“These new evening sessions provide more options for people over 50 who are looking for lively ways to stay intellectually stimulated,” says Dr. Robin Heath, TALK’s board chairperson. “Our members told us they wanted a greater variety of session times because they are often busy during the day and we have responded to that. We also hope the evening sessions will attract new members to TALK and our exciting fall program is a great time to check out what we offer.”

Events take place throughout the fall at Kwantlen Polytechnic University campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Cloverdale, as well as off-campus in some communities.

Upcoming activities by location this fall, include:

Surrey

  • Who’s Your Gangster – Oct. 11
  • Linguistics – Oct. 17

Richmond

  • The Grand Canyon – Oct. 10
  • Opera: La Fanciulla del West – Oct. 16

Langley

  • Heartfulness Meditation – Oct. 13, 20, 27
  • Tell Me Your Story – Nov. 19

Cloverdale

  • Building Your Own Theology – Nov. 14

All TALK events are aimed at those who are 50 or older. Most courses are $15 or $20, in addition to the $10 annual membership fee. There is a suggested minimum donation of $2 for each Philosophers’ Corner.
