KPU appoints new board member

Metro Vancouver, B.C. — Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Shira Standfield to its board of governors. Appointed this month, Standfield will hold office until July 31, 2015..

An access strategist with a background in landscape architecture, Standfield is the parks and recreation planner for the City of Surrey, and the principal of Everyoneincluded Strategies Inc. Previously, she worked as a park planner for Metro Vancouver, and as a park designer for Burnaby’s parks, recreation and culture division. She is a registered member of the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects. 

Active in her community, Standfield volunteers her time with the accessibility committee of the Rick Hansen Foundation. She is also a past member of the advisory design panel for the City of North Vancouver, and a peer mentor for Immigration Services Canada. Standfield won a bronze medal at the Athens 2004 Paralympics as a member of the Canadian women's wheelchair basketball team.

Standfield holds her Bachelor of Science (Environment and Resource Studies) from the University of Waterloo, her Master of Natural Resources from Simon Fraser University (SFU), and her Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia (UBC).
