Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The electronic file format of text materials should be MS Word, RTF, OpenOffice 2.0 or plain text. Please note that if accepted (and after any revisions), the file will be converted to HTML and PDF for online publication.
  • All written submissions are to be in English.
  • Use the American Psychological Association (APA) 7 format as the basis for references.
  • The title page should contain the submission title, author(s) name, position/affiliation, institution, address, phone number, email address, as well as a 100–250 word abstract and a list of 4–12 keywords. Please upload your title page as a separate document from your blinded manuscript.
  • We expect our authors to remove any potentially identifying information from their submission. This includes, but is not limited to author name(s), institution(s), and program or unit names.
  • Labelled tables, graphs, images, and illustrations are to be placed at the appropriate places within the body of the submission with suitable titles and subtitles. If colour or grayscale images are used, they should be tested on a black and white printer to ensure legibility when downloaded.
  • Citations, and suggested sources should be placed at the end of the submission.

Author Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in publishing your work with Transformative Dialogues. The following guidelines are intended to inform how you prepare your manuscript for submission.

Style

Transformative Dialogues recommends the use of American Psychological Association (APA) version 7 (APA 7) for formatting your manuscript. We do make exceptions for those whose disciplines or backgrounds do not make use of APA style.

Please note that the editors are more interested in quality of content (with some formatting accommodations for readability) versus perfectly APA formatted, but weak submissions. The editors encourage the use of tables, figures, images, diagrams, etc. to illustrate and support text, as well as, between 5 and 30 references and/or suitable reflections on process (depending on the submission type).

Article Length

We accept previously unpublished articles in the following categories:

  • Scholarly (Inquiry) Articles on applied innovations and professional developments, research reports, and general articles and literature surveys (approximately 4,000 to 8,000 words);
  • Personal or Speculative Reflections (be imaginative and provocative to invite dialogue), and tutorials (approximately 3,000 words);
  • Dialogues (between two or more participants that facilitate deeper insights, open lines of inquiry, or evolving relationships in the service of personal and/or scholarly transformation related to teaching and learning; flexible in word count);
  • Diverse format submissions such as presentations, poetry, interviews, videos, images, and other (new) media, etc. (500 to 1,500 words or equivalent).

Other Considerations

The readership for Transformative Dialogues is international.   We ask that you use language that is respectful of differences in higher education systems.  The word "faculty" for example means a body of instructors in the United States, but it often refers to an academic division or unit, e.g., the faculty of medicine, in Europe.  If you are not certain about a term, then we suggest you simply provide a definition for how you are using it in the context of your article.

Transformative Dialogues was originally housed in Canada, so there is precedent for following Canadian spelling conventions.  In general, we accept most spelling conventions, including British English, as long as they are used consistently and appropriately.  At this time, we are only able to consider manuscripts that are written in English.

Please provide full attribution and permissions for any and all figures, images, or other materials that have been generated by others.  If you include photographs that reflect identifiable information, including faces, we ask that you provide a statement indicating that you have followed clear and appropriate procedures for obtaining consent from every person whose identities are apparent in the image.

Dialogues

We invite authors to submit works in which there is a conversation, or similar forms of exchange, between two or more participants that facilitate deeper insights, open lines of inquiry, or evolving relationships in the service of personal and/or scholarly transformation related to teaching and learning.

We wish for this section to not only feature dialogues, but also to act as a form of dialogic space in which authors and readers can openly and creatively explore ideas in the context of relating with others. With that in mind, submissions to the Dialogues section may be presented in conventional formats such as stage dialogue, letters, or interviews, but we encourage authors to consider a wide range of alternative approaches (including digital media) to how their work may be represented in this space.

All submissions will be double-blind peer reviewed
