What is a BOX-A-WEEK?

The Tsawwassen Farm School grows a wide array of certified organic fruits and vegetables on 4 acres of sunny Tsawwassen land. 2016 was our first successful year in offering a weekly veggie box to over 50 customers in our community. We are so excited to continue this year and hope to reach even more customers! This marketing model is known as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) where consumers buy a season's worth of veggies. They pay in advance and pick up a box of fresh vegetables every week. In becoming a CSA member, they help the farmer with having upfront money to buy the seeds and all the inputs needed for the season. The biggest contributions of a CSA to a farmer are that the farmer receives instant income at the beginning of the year, members share in the risk of production, and the farmer saves some marketing time in their already very busy season. Therefore, as the name suggests, the community is supporting the farmer. 

As our farm is a cost-recovery educational farm, all the profit goes back into supporting the program, the supplies needed and the future farmers that are being trained here! So customers are not just buying vegetables, they are supporting the many future generations of farmers by giving them education and opportunity. 

How does it work?

You sign up, you pay and you receive a box of scrumptious fresh vegetables from our farm every week! You can expect an average of 9 to 12 different vegetable items every week including green leafy vegetables, roots, beans and peas, herbs, heirloom tomatoes, potatoes of all colours, hot and sweet peppers, okra, eggplants, and many varieties of squashes….there isn’t much that we do not grow! This year, we are committed to growing more Asian greens! By being a CSA member, you are aware that you will be getting surprise vegetables every week whereby the farmers puts in what is growing well on the field and what is in season. It's a great way to try new vegetables and new recipes!

Add-on options

This year we will be partnering up with other farms and businesses to bring more food options to our members! A "fresh sheet" will be sent out to member on the weeks that we have add-ons, and members may add these items for an additional cost. The possible items for this year include: bread, fresh-cut flowers and mushroom. 

Where can we pick up our boxes? 

We have several designated locations and times: 

  • KPU Richmond - Wednesday - 12PM-4PM
  • KPU Surrey - Wednesday - 10:30AM-11AM
  • At the farm - Wednesday - 9AM-4PM
  • Main St. Farmers Market - Wednesday - 2PM-6PM
  • Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market - Sunday - 10AM-2PM
  • West End Farmers Market - Saturday - 9AM-2PM

**NOTE: Unfortunatley, we were unable to get into West End market for the whole season, so we will only be there on the following dates: June 10, 17; September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and October 7, 14, 21. You may choose to only sign up for these 10 weeks only, or get your boxes at another one of our locations in July and August. 

We ask that our subscribers commit to picking up their boxes every week. While we do allow some flexibility of holding your boxes if you are away, it adds complexity to our scheduling and we would like to offer vegetables that are in their freshest state to our customers. 

Members are encouraged to bring their own bags to pack the produce. If a member wishes to take the tote, we require a $10 deposit in which will be returned once the box is given back.

How much does it cost?

Our CSA subscription runs from June 7 to October 21.

  • $25/week box 
  • 20 weeks of produce
  • $500 per share
  • $60 add-on for 10 weeks of organic eggs bi-weekly (limited availability)

We offer two types of payments:

1. Full payment at sign-up will receive a 5% discount on the total price.
2. 3 Installments where you pay 3 equal payments at the time of sign-up, June 1st and July 1st.

We accept payments by Cheque, PayPal Account, or Credit Card (through PayPal)

Refunds, No Shows and Cancellation Policies

We do not allow our customers to request for a refund or cancel their subscriptions once our season has started. Planning for a CSA happens in the beginning of the season where it affects our crop plan, marketing strategy and finances, so mid-season cancellations are not possible. However, if our farm makes a big change to the CSA program after you have signed up and you are unable to commit to it anymore, we will fully refund the amount that you have paid. If there is a no-show on your pick up day and the team was not informed in advanced, the box will be donated and you will not be issued a refund. For vacation, if members already that they will be away for several weeks during the season, the cost of those week may be omitted given that the members inform us at the time of sign up.
