Our 2018 CSA is now on sale!

What is a CSA weekly box program?

The Tsawwassen Farm School grows a wide array of certified organic vegetables on 3 acres of sunny Tsawwassen land. 2016 was our first successful year in offering a weekly vegetable box to over 50 customers in our community. This marketing model is known as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) where consumers buy a season's worth of veggies. They pay in advance and pick up a box of fresh vegetables every week. In becoming a CSA member, they help the farmer with having upfront money to buy the inputs needed for the season.

Why join a CSA?

The farm school is a cost-recovery program that does not receive any institutional funding, so all the profit goes back into supporting the program and the future farmers that are being trained here! So customers are not just buying vegetables, they are supporting the many future generations of farmers.

The biggest contributions of a CSA to a farm are that the farmer receives instant income at the beginning of the year, members share in the risk of production, and the farmer saves some marketing time during the busy season. Therefore, as the name suggests, the community is supporting the farmer. Customers share in the risk when the farm is facing challenges, but they also share in the abundance of bounty when the farm is doing well. This is truly supporting your local farmer and eating in season.

How does it work?

You sign up, you pay and you receive a box of scrumptious fresh vegetables every week! You can expect an average of 9 to 12 different vegetable items every week including green leafy vegetables, roots, beans and peas, herbs, heirloom tomatoes, potatoes of all colours, hot and sweet peppers, eggplants, and many varieties of squashes….there isn’t much that we do not grow! By being a CSA member, you are aware that you will be getting surprise vegetables every week whereby the farmers puts in what is growing well, is abundant and is in season. It's a great way to try new vegetables and new recipes!
