Alex Popovich BA (Hons) (McMaster), B.Ed. (Toronto), MA (McMaster)
Alex joined the History Department of what was then Kwantlen College late in the past century (well, in 1990 to be more precise). Alex initially developed and taught a series of lower level European History surveys, as well regularly teaching the history of modern war. As Kwantlen College became first a university college and then a full-fledged polytechnic university, Alex developed a wide range of courses in Russian and Soviet History, as well as more specialized seminars in Balkan History and the European dictatorships. “Pops”, as his students fondly call him, will be remembered in the department for his intolerance of bureaucracy, his general no-BS approach to meetings, his generosity with the abundant produce from his vegetable gardens, and his menagerie of animals.
Alex will be retiring after the Spring semester 2021, and we wish him only the very best as he leaves us after 31 years.
