Counselling Support Skills
(Continuing Education)

Start date: September, January, and April
Description
This part-time program is for those who have no formal counselling training, but who are interested in the field and may already be working in a counselling setting. The program provides practical and theoretical instruction for students who wish to integrate their experience, including personal counselling work, with training by a professional counsellor. It enhances/augments the skills of people who work as employment and training counsellors, child and youth care workers, supervisors working with other helping professionals, and those who hold similar positions. Some students take the program for personal growth.
The program consists of six compulsory courses and one of two optional courses to complete the seven-course format required for the Citation. Each course is 36 hours in length.
Career Opportunities
Some students have found positions with social service agencies such as shelters for battered women, and drug and alcohol recovery centres. An approximate wage expectation would be between $12 and $18 an hour.

If applicants have any questions about the program, they are encouraged to discuss them with the program coordinator before enrolling. Applicants are reminded that additional time is required for research, assignments, and reading.
