English Language Studies

Offered at Richmond and Surrey Campus
Start date: September, January and May
English Language Proficiency Diploma
The curriculum and content of this program are currently under development.
Students will be able to apply credits toward the diploma program pending approval.
This diploma program provides full or part-time intensive English language study for students whose first language is not English and who intend to enroll in university studies or career and professional programs. There are four levels of study from the Foundation level (lower intermediate) to Level 4 (Upper Advanced). The core curriculum (reading, writing, listening and speaking) is augmented by electives selected in consultation with a faculty advisor. At Level 3, students can begin graduated entry into university studies or career and professional programs. See English as a Second Language (EASL) courses for more details.
English Language Training (ENLT)
The English Language Training program helps ESL students develop practical communication skills—including speaking, listening, reading and writing—for everyday use and for professional purposes. Courses range from upper beginner to advanced levels. Upper level courses also prepare students to enter career and vocational programs. See ENLT courses for more details.
English Language Services for Adults (ELSA)
Full-time and part-time
The ELS Department also offers ELSA classes for newcomers to Canada. These are free classes provided by the provincial government. In these classes, students learn about Canada and develop practical English language skills for living in Canada. Please note that Canadian citizens are not eligible for this program. Students should apply at the following CLBA ELSA Testing Centres:
