Certificate In Automotive Parts And Light Warehousing

DESCRIPTION

This certificate program prepares students for employment in the parts and service industry as parts persons, warehouse persons and inventory clerks. This program is appropriate for students entering industry on a permanent level.

Hands-on experience is the basis from which skills are developed in the program. This program is developed around the individual needs of the students, and these needs will determine the actual length. The program is designed to accommodate past experience, and credit and/or placement will be given to students who can demonstrate learned skills plus the theoretical knowledge. This format will permit those students who have completed shop training in secondary schools to apply their credits to Kwantlen’s program. The content has been organized into modules to ensure maximum flexibility for individualized training. For further information you can also visit the Trades website at www.kwantlen.ca/trades

Students who complete the Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) are eligible for credit for first year apprenticeship technical training.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates are in demand for such jobs as counter person, shipper/receiver, inventory controller, outside salesperson, and for entry-level management positions. Graduates will be prepared to enter an apprenticeship.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Students must meet either the regular student admission category or the mature student admission category in addition to the following:

  • Adequate reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen

  • Interview with instructor

Due to the nature of this program, students should have satisfactory physical health.

CONTENT

This program is offered Monday through Friday on a continuous intake basis. The estimated length of the program is 7 - 9 months.

  • Stock handling procedures (shipping, receiving and inventory control)

  • Office procedures and communications

  • Standard stock and materials

  • Parts Identification (Mechanical)

  • Support systems (Mechanical)

  • Support systems (Electrical)

  • Frames and chassis

  • Catalogue types and applications (Electronic, Paper and Fiche)

  • Power trains transmissions

This program is under review. The content may change starting September 2006.

Note

Students must achieve 80% or higher in practical exams and assignments.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

Students will require appropriate steel-toed safety shoes or boots.

GRADUATION

Upon successful completion of this program students are awarded a Certificate in Automotive Parts and Light Warehousing.
