Mathematics Prerequisites

As shown below, MATH courses offered at Kwantlen may also serve as requisites to future math course

MATH PREREQUISITE
MATH 1093, 1117 MATH 1092 or (ABEM 0072 or PSPM 1072) or (ABEM 0010 or MATP 1010)
MATH 1112,  1115, 1190* MATH 1093 or (ABEM 0082 or PSPM 1082) or (ABEM 0011 with a B- or MATP 1011 with a B-)
MATH 1120, 1130, 1140, 1190 MATH 1112

These requirements apply only to students who have 18 credits of Kwantlen courses numbered 1100 or above (or equivalent).

Students are not normally granted waivers of prerequisites for mathematics courses. Students may not register into mathematics courses after the first week of classes.

Appropriate ABEM/ MATP courses may also serve as prerequisites to MATH courses at Kwantlen. Please see the MATH course descriptions for complete lists of prerequisites.

Students without a BC high school transcript will be required to write the Mathematics Placement Test if an equivalency cannot be determined.

Other students who have not taken a mathematics course during the past two years are strongly advised to write the Mathematics Placement Test.

POLICY ON ADVANCED STANDING

Certain applicants may be eligible for advanced standing in Mathematics that is to receive MATH credit based on their pre-collegiate background and/or achievement tests. The assignment of credits is as follows:

IB Mathematics (6 or better) MATH 1120 (3)
IB Further Mathematics (6 or better) MATH 1120 (3) and MATH 1220 (3)
AP Math – AB level (4 or better) MATH 1120 (3)
AP Math – BC level (4 or better) MATH 1120 (3) and MATH 1220 (3)
Calculus 12 + Calculus Challenge Examination Certificate (from UBC, SFU, UVic, or UNBC) MATH 1120 (3)
ASSOCIATE DEGREE

Kwantlen offers an Associate of Science degree in Mathematics for students pursuing a B.Sc. major in Mathematics. Courses numbered less than 1100 (such as MATH 1093) or MATH 1117 may not count toward the course load that makes a student eligible for a student loan. Students who are unsure of their eligibility should contact the Student Awards and Financial Assistance at 604.599.2040.
