Carpentry/Building Construction


Offered at Newton

Program length: 8 to 10 months (continuous intake)

Description

The purpose of this program is to provide students with skills and knowledge in the subject area of building construction. Kwantlen considers the scope and depth of this program to be appropriate for students entering industry on a permanent basis.

Hands-on shop experience is the basis on which skills are developed in the program. This program is developed around the individual needs of students, and these needs will determine the actual length of instruction. The program is designed to accommodate past experience, and credit and/or advancement will be given to students who can demonstrate learned skills plus theoretical knowledge. The content is organized into modules to ensure maximum flexibility for individualized learning. This program is offered Monday through Friday on a continuous intake basis.

Admission Requirements

  • Grade 10 reading comprehension and math skills assessed by Kwantlen
  • Satisfactory physical health
  • Students will require appropriate safety wear in conformance with Workers' Compensation Board regulations

A list of tools required will be provided by Admissions prior to starting this program

Graduation

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be awarded a Certificate in Carpentry/Building Construction.
