KPU Civic Plaza Closed to Students
No in-person classes are anticipated at KPU Civic Plaza for the Spring semester, and very few students have been accessing the study space, even though the campus has remained open throughout the pandemic.
In response to this, and in recognition of the need to carefully manage operational costs during the pandemic, students will no longer have access to KPU Civic Plaza as of November 1. We will review this decision in advance of the Summer semester.
KPU’s other four campuses remain open with access to a number of areas, including the libraries, for students who need safe and socially distanced study space on campus.
KPU Civic Plaza
Located at 13485 Central Avenue, our brand new campus is conveniently located directly on the SkyTrain's Expo Line adjacent to Surrey Central Station and the bus loop.
Situated on the Surrey Centre Plaza, this campus is within walking distance of local restaurants, coffee shops and shopping, neighbouring both Surrey City Hall and the iconic Surrey Centre Library.
The campus itself is accessed via an elevator from the Surrey City Hall parkade, or from an elevator in the ground-floor lobby of the newly opened Civic Hotel, currently Surrey’s tallest building.
The campus features a mix of modern, flexible, formal and informal learning spaces, linked by a common staircase:

- Five 25-seat classrooms
- Four open spaces that allow for students and employees to engage in individual and group work
- Seven bookable meeting rooms
- Welcome areas with flexible seating on each floor adjacent to the elevators
- Microwave station
- Employee lounge with kitchenette facilities and drop-in workspace that includes two bookable offices and a bookable meeting room
- Prayer and meditation room
- Broadcast centre

Students and employees will be granted access to Civic Plaza using their KPU ID card. ID cards can be obtained from the Concierge on Level 6. They can also be obtained from the Library following the process outlined at kpu.ca/kpucard. Photos will NOT be taken at KPU Civic Plaza.
Students and employees will be required to scan their KPU ID Card in the elevator to access Levels 5, 7 and 8. Access control setting for KPU ID Cards will be dependent on the need of the individual.
Existing online bookstore services will be offered at KPU Civic Plaza, which means that students can order their course material through the Bookstore website to the campus of their choice, including Civic Plaza, at no additional cost, or to their home for a minimal cost. The Concierge will sign-off on the student pick-up. Students may also shop in person at the Surrey campus Bookstore.
Security personnel are on campus during all operating hours and provide a variety of services, including response to security-related issues, safe walk, check-in on persons working alone, and lost and found. It is recommended that students and employees download the "KPUSafe" app to be kept up to date on safety and security issues. Security can be reached by phone at 604-598-5276.
The KPU Civic Plaza campus is situated adjacent to the Surrey Central SkyTrain Station, which is located at 10278–135 Street. The station and adjacent bus loop form a central regional transit hub servicing all major local communities. For more information on transit options servicing this area please visit the Transit in Surrey or visit TransLink's website.
Public parking is available at market rate on levels P2 and P3 in the parkade at Surrey City Hall. Public parking is available between 6 a.m. and midnight, seven days per week. Parking pay stations are located throughout the parkade.
Please note that free two-hour parking on level P1 is available only for visitors to City Hall and the Surrey Centre Library. All other patrons in the parkade must pay in accordance with the posted rates.
For information on the public underground parking.
KPU has secured a limited number of parking stalls for KPU employees. Employees are encouraged to check SharePoint for details.
If the parkade is full, additional paid parking is available 150 metres away at 13583 - 104 Avenue (across the street from Safeway).
Passenger Pick Up/Drop Off
Students, employees and visitors may be safely dropped off and picked up in the front of the building, next to the Civic Hotel, or in the parkade. Temporary parking while waiting to pick someone up is not permitted at the front of the building.
