Academic Plan 2023

As Provost and Vice President Academic I offer my greetings and welcome you to the KPU Academic Plan 2023 website. I am excited about embarking on this, KPU's second academic plan. The first plan, launched in 2014, and so positively embraced by our community, will reach its completion in June 2018. This campus-wide initiative was instrumental in directing our collective energies to the implementation of four main goals, all of which have been substantially achieved or implemented. Congratulations to everyone involved for a wonderful and collaborative effort. Read more...

As we look towards the next five years at KPU we do so with more experience, more programmatic depth, more governance maturity, a much more grounded sense of identity and a better understanding of our role within the post-secondary sector. Our first plan allowed us to learn how educational plans can catalyze the exploration of diverse elements of our educational delivery. As ideas generated yet other ideas, we have now identified important outstanding areas that you, the KPU community, have indicated you want to collectively explore.

This site is that place for exploration. This is the place for all members of our KPU community to participate in the important exercise of developing and building our new academic plan. Here is the place to share your ideas, your comments, your critiques and the place to add your value to our collaborative project.

The site will focus on eight different feature areas of interest.

  • Student Success
  • Teaching Excellence
  • Graduate programs
  • Research
  • Technical pedagogy
  • Indigenization
  • The K-12 curriculum transformation
  • Internationalization.

During the many consultations and forums that are planned and in process other areas of focus will undoubtedly arise. We remain open to featuring other educational issues that are of importance to our internal community.

The academic plan is a sentinel document meant to guide the educational planning of our institution over the next five years. Your input is essential to ensuring it captures that which you deem most important to ensure KPU delivers a quality, relevant and highly regarded education. Your contributions will allow the steering and advisory groups to consolidate the many ideas into a cohesive document that will be thoroughly discussed by our Senate and Board of Governors.

The academic plan will be assembled over the next few months through consultation with all of you. This outreach will include forums, coffee chats, departmental meetings, Senate discussions and, of course, this website. I invite you to please participate in as many ways as you are able and welcome your contribution to our collective plan. I welcome you to leave a comment on any of the Academic Plan 2023 topics or join me at a “Coffee with Sal” discussion listed below!

I look forward to collaborating with you.

Dr. Salvador Ferreras
