INTERNATIONAL ADVISING COORDINATOR - Competition Number 20-105R

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has an immediate opening working with KPU International as the International Advising Coordinator. This is a full-time regular position at our Surrey campus. Due to the pandemic, however, this position will be working virtually until we resume regular day to day operations. 

The International Advising Coordinator oversees International Educational Advising services and performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the department’s strategic plan and operations, using a comprehensive knowledge of all KPU faculties, departmental goals and standards, as well as both institutional and immigration policies and procedures.  

This position will coordinate and supervise administrative support functions and activities in support of the Manager, Global Engagement, coordinate budget-related activities, and provide ongoing guidance and advice to international students to ensure fulfillment of program requirements for graduation. 

The Coordinator will also plan, analyze and interpret complex department issues, research options, recommend and implement solutions.  As well, this position will provide supervision to highly specialized International Education Advisors and work closely with other departments at KPU to ensure an integrated approach. 

This role will be responsible for contributing to the strategic direction of the department to achieve required business results and for identifying and mitigating emerging risks with respect to immigration, compliance and regulations.  

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized Canadian or international post-secondary institution and a minimum of three years of experience that demonstrates increasing levels of responsibility and international student advising, preferably within a post-secondary work environment.  Experience in a supervisory position is preferred.  The incumbent must have full command of the English language, both written and oral as well as fluency in a second language spoken in one of KPU’s target markets. The ideal candidate will have experience working with international students, including an understanding of other cultures and the ability to communicate in a cross-cultural working environment and a demonstrated understanding of Citizenship and Immigration Canada requirements for study and work permits (RISIA Certification is considered an asset).  In-depth knowledge of admission and registration processes is required.
