About the Event

Have you ever dreamed of exploring and learning about the world without having to put a pause to your studies or leave campus? Moreover, have you ever imagined being able to soar over thousands of global landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Colosseum in Rome without needing a passport or airline tickets? Well, this year from Nov. 20th  to Nov. 24th  we’re inviting you to our annual International Focus Week where you will have the opportunity to do exactly that! Become a savvy cultural navigator at our Global Engagement Fair where you will get the opportunity to interact with exchange and international students from different countries, enjoy international snacks, partake in a tea tasting session, and immerse yourself in a Virtual Reality experience where you’ll get to travel to any destination around the world utilizing the latest VR technology!

  • Global Engagement Fair

Travel the world at the IFW Global Engagement Fair! Table country booths will be set up with students either from that country, or students who went there on a study abroad experience. Grab a passport paper to get stamps from the country booths and enter to win a prize. An opening ceremony will take place from 12-1pm with a welcome from KPU's Elder in Residence and International office. Watch welcome videos from partner Universities around the world and learn more about global opportunities to engage in. Free tea and snacks will be provided as well as a chance to get a memorable takeaway photo. Don't miss out on this international day on campus!

Explore the world with Google Maps by using immersive features to get a detailed multidimensional view of the world. Utilizing a VR headset, you will get to soar over thousands of global landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to find entrances and get a sense of restaurants in the area with immersive view. Once you decide where you would like to go, you will be able to use Live View to see the way forward with virtual arrows overlaid on the real world, lighting up your path to navigate your chosen destination.

Cozy up to the season with a complimentary giveaway of travel essentials designed to keep you warm during your winter adventures. Then, embark on a tantalizing journey through the world of tea as we unveil an array of exotic flavors from across the globe. Immerse yourself in the rich traditions and cultural significance of teas hailing from Asia, Africa, Europe, and more. It's a unique fusion of warmth and wanderlust, promising an unforgettable experience for all.

  • Dance and Music Around the World

Prepare to be captivated by an array of different cultural dance and music performances from around the world. Let the rhythm and melodies move your body, as you experience the unique cultural vibrance of dance and music from many different countries.

Join us on a global journey at Richmond Campus! Discover one beautiful country from each continent by scanning QR codes with your smartphone to access PDF guides. We will introduce you to destination highlights, thrilling activities, tasty local cuisine, and valuable study abroad insights.

Curious and have questions about going on a short term or exchange semester abroad? In this Study Abroad WSD Lunch & Learn Info Session, information will be provided on global learning opportunities, scholarships, as well as tips from the WSD academic advisor. Come to this session to understand more especially in preparation for the next application period in February 2024, get your questions answered live, and hear from a returning WSD exchange student.  This info session is also open to KPU staff or faculty wanting to know more of what is available for Canadian and International students

  • Books Around the World with the KPU Library (Affiliate Event).

The library will be showcasing a collection of books from around the world throughout the week that highlight culture, tradition and diversity from authors around the world. Students can stop by to browse titles or borrow books to dive deeper into the diversity of literature around the world.

  • One Table, Many Beliefs (Affiliate Event)

Multi-Faith Centre chaplains at KPU will be exploring and discussing how culture, religion and beliefs intersect through the act of sharing food. Come share food with our chaplains and chat about how their different backgrounds come together at one table for peace and harmony.

  • International Student Game Design Showcase with the KPU Entertainment Arts Faculty (Affiliate Event)

Are you a hardcore gamer? Join the KPU Entertainment Arts Faculty at their video gaming station in Richmond. At this event, you will get the chance to play and test out a variety of new and innovative student created games. This station will showcase international student work and highlight the home countries of each creator.
