Faculty Learning Community on Open Pedagogy

Early in 2018, we organized KPU's first interdisciplinary Faculty Learning Community (FLC) on Open Pedagogy. Meeting over the Spring semester, the group explored a variety of open educational practices that go far beyond open textbooks and critically examined ways in which students and faculty can use open resources, open licensing, and open tools to work together to design powerful and authentic learning experiences.

The Fall 2018 semester marked the launch of our second FLC cohort. The group read a single article and met for a virtual discussion about twice a month on Fridays from 9-10am. The schedule of meetings and topics was as follows:

September 21 From open educational resources to open pedagogy [Reading
October 5 Diversity, equity, and inclusion through open education [Reading]
October 19 Privacy, digital redlining, and educational technology [Reading]
November 2 A domain of one's own: Wordpress in the classroom [Reading]
November 23 Information environmentalism: Wikipedia in the classroom [Reading]
December 7 Open pedagogy showcase
