Cardio stands for cardiovascular. Typically in an exercise setting cardio refers to the type of exercise which focuses on increasing your running ability or various other exercises which may involve long duration and low to moderate intensities. However, this is not accurate. Your cardiovascular ability actually refers to the bodies ability to pump blood and deliver the proper nutrients to the living tissues. This effects everything from everyday health, to your muscular strength, to your ability to perform extended periods of exercise at various intensities. For many, just walking 30 minutes a day can have profound effects on your health.
