Gerard Laverty - Instructor
Gerard Laverty has a thirty year career as a working Farrier in several different countries. Gerard’s career began in the early seventies in the North of Ireland. He served a three year apprenticeship in Dublin, Ireland, with the Irish Horse Shoe Board. He graduated with a gold medal in both theory and practical. Gerard moved to the U.S. in 1981 and spent 2 years as a journeyperson after which he immigrated to Canada and began a business in Prince George, B.C. In August of 2003, he accepted the position of Instructor of the Farrier program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Marie Leginus - Substitute Instructor
Marie Laginus has been shoeing horses for 9 years. She is a a graduate from the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Farrier program and in 2009 passed the American Farriers Association Journeyman Farrier exam. She made the Canadian Farriers Team in 2010 and travelled to Ontario, Calgary, and England to compete in an International Farrier competitions. She continues to apprentice with other farriers still works at improving her skill and knowledge. She has been the assistant instructor at KPU for the past two years.
