Textile Studies for Teachers: Pattern Drafting & Garment Construction
Students will practice, assess, and update classroom techniques in pattern drafting and manipulation, and garment construction. They will develop patterns for one top (hooded sweatshirt, vest, blouse or simple jacket) and one bottom (skirt or pants) to be produced as full-scale garments. Students will use a wide range of garment construction techniques.
Note : This course, offered as part of a certificate in collaboration with UBC, is designed for teachers of secondary and post-secondary textiles studies who want to strengthen their knowledge in the area, or for teachers who want to develop expertise for the teaching of textiles studies.
Prerequisites: Teacher training or teaching experience in secondary Home Economics or post-secondary Fashion or Clothing & Textiles and sewing experience
Textile Studies for Teachers: Fashion Drawing and Portfolio Development in the High
School Classroom
Students will practise, assess, and update techniques in creating fashion drawing and developing portfolios. They will work through an abbreviated design process from inspiration to final presentation sketches, with a focus on presenting a group of clothes through figure drawing and technical drawing. Students will plan a portfolio of exercises suitable for use in the high school classroom and for entrance to a post-secondary institution. Previous drawing experience is not essential.
