Certificate In Criminology
DESCRIPTION

The Certificate in Criminology is a 30 credit program. Students who are employed in a criminal justice or related fields select this program to explore opportunities for career advancement.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates from the certificate program, while not assured of careers within the justice system, are currently employed in nearly every aspect of the justice system, and many are currently continuing their education not only in criminology, but in fields such as law, social work, social and behavioural sciences, arts and sciences.

CONTENT

The Certificate in Criminology provides students with an introduction to a wide range of topics in social sciences, criminology, and criminal justice.

  • GROUP A (all courses are required)

    • CRIM 1100 Introduction to Criminology

    • CRIM 1101 Criminal Justice System Intro

    • CRIM 1107 Canadian Legal Systems

    • PSYC 1100 Introduction to Psychology: Basic Processes

    • SOCI 1125 Introduction to Society: Processes and Structures

  • GROUP B (three of the following are required)

  • GROUP C

    • Select any two university transfer credit courses in disciplines other than criminology.

Students have the option of entering the diploma program without having to make up additional course work. Those who elect to complete the certificate may select from a number of electives in the second semester.

GRADUATION

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be awarded a Certificate in Criminology.
