Welding


Offered at Langley and Newton

Description

The purpose of this program is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to become competent welders upon successful completion of all the welding courses in each level. Students will develop the necessary habits concerning safety and the proper use of time and materials necessary as competent welders in today's market.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of Kwantlen's welding program are in demand by industry. Graduates will be prepared to enter an apprenticeship. Welders are employed in forestry, mining, petro chemical, transportation, and marine industries.

Admission Requirements

Content

Hands-on shop experience is the basis from which skills are developed in the program. This program is developed around the individual needs of students and these needs will determine its actual length.

The program is designed to accommodate past experience: credit and/or advancement will take place if students can demonstrate learned skills, plus theoretical knowledge. The course content has been organized into modules to ensure maximum flexibility for individualized training. Students will require appropriate personal safety clothing and footwear.

These programs are offered Monday through Friday on a continuous intake basis.

Registered C Welder

Approximately seven months vocational training

Graduation

Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded a Certificate in Welding - Level C

Kwantlen University College is an Authorized-testing agency offering pressure welding upgrading and testing. Pressure welding upgrading and testing to the A.S.M.E. Code available in Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW), and Oxy-fuel welding (OFW).

Upgrading and testing available for Pre-Qualified Welding Procedures (P.W.P.) and Mechanical Contractors' Association (M.C.A.) endorsements.

Upgrading and testing for CWB certification is now available in SMAW. Upgrading and testing are also available, with proper authorization from the employer or trade union, in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW/self-shielded and dual-shielded.
